Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 17 of the 20 other cold outreach tools we grade

lemlist sends personalized sequences that mix cold email with LinkedIn steps, calls, SMS and WhatsApp, and stops them when a lead replies. Its lemwarm warm-up and deliverability tools come with every plan, and a database of more than 650 million leads is searched with credits. The Email plan is priced by monthly volume for unlimited users; the Multichannel plan is priced per user.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about lemlist, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for email and LinkedIn in one sequence

For email alone it's cheap for a team, as the Email plan has no per-person charge.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $55 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $55 per month for 50,000 emails, billed yearly ($69 monthly).

  3. 3

    You can try it first

14-day free trial of Multichannel, no card required, with 200 credits and 50 emails a day

  4. 4

    It runs on Web

Web, with a browser extension too.

  5. 5

    Multichannel sequences

Campaigns mix emails with LinkedIn visits, invites, messages and voice notes, calls, SMS and WhatsApp, with conditional next steps and an automatic stop.

  6. 6

    lemwarm and deliverability tools

Warm-up, inbox rotation, rotating IPs, custom tracking domains, sending limits and a deliverability hub with alerts are included on every plan.

  7. 7

    Lead database and finders

Search more than 650 million leads and find emails and phone numbers through 25+ data providers, paid for with credits: $1 covers 20 emails or 5 phone numbers.

  8. 8

    A 2.8 GPA, above 17 of 20

That is against the other cold outreach tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace lemlist you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

Best for email and LinkedIn in one sequence

lemlist does the whole cold outreach job: email, LinkedIn, calls and texts in one sequence that stops when someone answers, with warm-up thrown in. For email alone it's cheap for a team, as the Email plan has no per-person charge. Add LinkedIn and it becomes one of the dearest tools here, at $87 a person.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAFive people share the Email plan, which has unlimited users: $55 a month billed yearly for 50,000 emails, $11 a head, a third of the cheaper quarter. LinkedIn, calls and SMS are another story: Multichannel is $87 per user billed yearly, in this category's dearest tenth.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan you can send from, since Freemium can't launch campaigns. The 14-day Multichannel trial needs no card and gives 200 credits and 50 emails a day, but leaves out lemwarm and calling.
FeaturesBThe whole job: emails, LinkedIn invites, messages and voice notes, calls, SMS and WhatsApp in one sequence, with conditions and an automatic stop on a reply. Warm-up, a 650M-lead database and one inbox for every channel sit alongside.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record. There's a fair bit to set up, from senders and warm-up to conditional steps and personalized images, so give it a few days before a sequence feels right.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, plus a Chrome extension that runs lemlist from Gmail and LinkedIn on Multichannel. HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zapier, Make, n8n, Clay and Aircall connect, and there's a public API. No phone or desktop app.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who lemlist is for

  • Great if your team mixes cold email with LinkedIn and calls
  • Handy when a whole team shares the Email plan, with no charge per person
  • A treat if you personalize with images and conditional text

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you want LinkedIn for five people, at $87 a user a month billed yearly
  • Not for you if you want a free plan, as Freemium can't launch campaigns
  • Tight if you need lead data, which starts at $16 a month billed yearly for 2,000 credits

Good to know

Good for

  • Sales teams that combine cold email with LinkedIn and calls
  • Teams sending email at volume with many users on one bill
  • Senders who personalize each message with images or conditional text

Worth knowing

  • No free plan for sending: after the trial, accounts drop to Freemium, which cannot launch campaigns. The trial itself leaves out lemwarm and calling.
  • Lead data costs extra: the enrichment add-on is $16 a month billed yearly ($20 monthly) for 2,000 credits, and buying signals $21 ($29) for 100.
  • On Multichannel, WhatsApp is $20 per user a month, extra email senders $9 each a month, and SMS needs a $15 a month number plus 6 credits a text.
  • LinkedIn, SMS and calling need the per-user Multichannel plan; SSO, custom roles and CRM-embedded use are Enterprise only.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace lemlist you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 17 of the 20 other cold outreach tools we grade. It costs $660 a year.

What you could make

  • Templates: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • It plugs into other products, HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive among them, and has an API.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. lemlist’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
