Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 7 of the 35 other journaling apps we grade
Moodflow is a mood tracker and journal for iPhone and Android. A check-in is a rating on a five-point scale with the emotions behind it, plus optional activities, a note and photos, and several can be logged in a day. The app colors a calendar and a year grid by mood and charts how activities, people and habits relate to it. Entries are stored on the device, with optional backup to your own Google Drive. The core app is free, and a Moodflow Plus subscription adds cloud backup of photos.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Moodflow, taken from its own pages and our grades.
The core app is free and entries stay on your phone.

The report card
Best for seeing what's behind your good and bad days
Moodflow is a mood tracker with a journal attached. Rate the day out of five, tap the emotions and activities that went with it, and the charts show which people and habits line up with which moods. The core app is free and entries stay on your phone. But it's phones only, a lost phone without a backup means lost entries, and Plus prices come with no billing period.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | There's no price to judge. The site names none, and the US App Store shows Moodflow Plus at $3.49, $9.99 and $14.99 with no billing period beside any of them. The one Plus feature the site does name is cloud backup of your entry photos. |
| Free plan and trial | B | The terms say the core check-ins and journals are free, kept on your phone, with optional backup to your own Google Drive, and the only ads are ones you choose to watch. Cloud backup of photos is the bit Plus adds. |
| Features | C | It does the mood tracker fully, with one-tap check-ins, charts ranking how activities, people and habits go with your mood, daily, gratitude and symptom journals, a year grid, routines and 28-day challenges. The gap its own pages name: the Google Drive backup isn't separately encrypted and only the last 4 are kept. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: a check-in is one rating and a few taps, and the note, photos and activities are all optional extras you can skip on a tired evening. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Phones only: iPhone and Android, with the App Store listing for iPhone alone and no web or desktop version. Its single connection is a backup to your own Google Drive. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Moodflow is for
- Fits if you'll log a mood in one tap but won't write an essay every night
- Works for people who want entries kept on the phone and not sent to the vendor
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to read or write entries on a laptop, as there's no web or desktop version
- Not for you if you never back up, because the vendor can't restore entries from a lost phone
- Tight if you want to know what Plus costs per month before you install, since the store shows prices with no period
- Watch out: the Google Drive backup isn't separately encrypted, and only the 4 most recent are kept
- Watch out: the site names only one Plus feature, and the trial length isn't published
Good to know
Good for
- People who want to log a mood in one tap and add detail only when they feel like it
- Seeing which activities, people and habits go with better or worse days
- Privacy-minded users who want entries kept on the phone
Worth knowing
- There is no web or desktop version, and the App Store listing is for iPhone only.
- The site lists no Plus prices; the App Store shows $3.49, $9.99 and $14.99 purchases without saying what period each covers.
- The Google Drive backup file is not separately encrypted, and only the 4 most recent backups are kept.
- Because entries live on the device, the vendor cannot restore them if the phone is lost without a backup.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A journal at its plainest is dated entries of text and photos.
You could make the core of Moodflow for yourself: mood tracking, daily notes and habit tracking. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call.
What you could make
- Mood tracking, daily notes and habit tracking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
What this rests on. Moodflow’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
