Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 2 of the 35 other journaling apps we grade
Moodistory is a mood tracker and diary for iPhone and Android. An entry is made by swiping to a mood on a scale you define, from 2 to 11 points, and tapping icons for what you did; notes, photos and a location are optional. A Year in Pixels calendar and an analysis view show which activities go with better or worse moods. All data stays on the device, with manual, iCloud or Google Drive backups. The app is free to download, and a Premium subscription unlocks all of it.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Moodistory, taken from its own pages and our grades.

- 7

The report card
Best for logging a mood without typing a word
Moodistory is for people who want to track how they feel without writing about it. Swipe to a mood, tap a few icons for what you did, done. Data stays on the phone, and it can print a PDF. But the vendor doesn't say what the free version leaves out, the App Store prices come without billing periods, and there's no web or desktop version.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | There's no price to judge. Moodistory publishes no price list, and the US App Store shows Premium at $2.99, $6.99, $14.99, $19.99 and $39.99 with no billing period on any of them, so you can't tell what a year would cost. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free to download and use with no ads, going by the developer's Google Play replies, but its pages never say which features Premium keeps back. You find the wall by hitting it. A Premium trial is offered, with the length shown in the app. |
| Features | C | It does mood tracking fully: a scale you set from 2 to 11 points, more than 180 event icons, a Year in Pixels calendar, an analysis of which events go with good or bad moods, and PDF and CSV export. But that's a smaller job than a diary, where writing is an optional note. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but there's nothing to set up and nothing to type: an entry is a swipe to a mood and a few taps on icons, and you can make as many in a day as you like. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Phones only, plus an Apple Watch app: iPhone and Android, with no web or desktop version. It reads Apple Health data like sleep on iOS and backs up to iCloud or Google Drive. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Moodistory is for
- Fits if you want to log a mood and what you did without writing anything
- Works for printing a mood diary as a PDF, say for a doctor or therapist
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to know the price and the free limits up front, as the vendor publishes neither
- Too light for people who want a written journal, since notes are an optional extra
- Not for you if you forget backups, because your data lives only on the phone
- Skip it if you want to log on a computer, as it's phones and Apple Watch only
- Watch out: the App Store lists Premium at five prices from $2.99 to $39.99 with no billing periods
Good to know
Good for
- People who want to log a mood and activities without writing anything
- Users who want mood data kept on the phone and off vendor servers
- Printing or sharing a mood diary as a PDF
Worth knowing
- There is no web or desktop version: the apps are for iPhone and Android, plus an Apple Watch app.
- The vendor publishes no price list; the US App Store shows Premium purchases from $2.99 to $39.99 without billing periods.
- The vendor's pages do not say which features the free version leaves out.
- Data lives only on the device, so moving to a new phone depends on a backup you make yourself.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A journal at its plainest is dated entries of text and photos.
You could make the core of Moodistory for yourself: mood tracking and daily notes. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call.
What you could make
- Mood tracking and daily notes: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
What this rests on. Moodistory’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
