Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
1.8
GPA, above 0 of the 11 other ad creative and reporting tools we grade
Motion (motionapp.com) is a creative analytics tool for ad teams, not the Motion calendar and task planner. It reports on your own ad accounts: it pulls ads and results from Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn into visual reports, tags every creative with AI and suggests what to make next. Its Inspo feed also follows competitors' new ads. Plans are priced by monthly ad spend.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Motion, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for creative reports for big Meta and TikTok spenders
Motion is creative analytics: it pulls your ads from Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn into visual reports, tags every ad with AI and suggests what to make next.
- 2
Paid plans start at $50 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $999 per month for up to $50K ad spend a month.
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial, no credit card required
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Visual creative reports
Top performer, comparison and launch reports put each ad's image or video next to its numbers, grouped by creative, and update themselves.
- 6
AI tags
Tags every ad by asset type, visual format, hook and angle, so results can be compared by element and gaps in creative variety stand out.
- 7
AI tasks and chat
One-click tasks analyze a report, review creative variety or find ads to iterate on, with follow-up chat and a recommended next brief.
- 8
A 1.8 GPA, above 0 of 11
That is against the other ad creative and reporting tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Motion you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for creative reports for big Meta and TikTok spenders
Motion is creative analytics: it pulls your ads from Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn into visual reports, tags every ad with AI and suggests what to make next. It's not the Motion calendar app. The only published price is $999 a month for up to $50K of ad spend, which is a lot if you spend far less than that.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | F | Graded against the reporting tools it's listed with. The only published price is Starter at $999 a month for up to $50K of ad spend, billing term not stated, and someone spending a tenth of that pays the same. That's several times what its rivals charge at that spend, and nothing here explains the gap. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but a 14-day trial that needs no card. That's long enough to connect your accounts and see a few reports before paying. |
| Features | C | Visual reports, AI tags by hook and angle, AI tasks that suggest the next brief, a feed of rivals' new ads and shareable snapshots. It's strong analysis, but it doesn't make the ads, and attribution from GA4 and Northbeam only comes on Pro, priced through sales. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. You connect ad accounts before anything shows, and the reports and tags take some learning, though shared snapshots need no login for clients. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with no phone or desktop app. It reads Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn ad accounts, posts to Slack, takes Google Analytics 4 and Northbeam data on Pro, and offers MCP access. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Motion is for
- Great if you spend heavily on Meta and TikTok and brief editors on which ads to make next
- Handy when an agency needs to send clients ad reports they can open without a login
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you spend well under $50K a month on ads, as $999 is the only published price
- Not for you if you want the tool to make the ads, as it only analyzes them
- Skip it if you were after the Motion calendar and task app, which is a different product
Good to know
Good for
- Direct-to-consumer brands spending heavily on Meta and TikTok ads
- Creative strategists who brief editors on which ads to make next
- Agencies sharing visual ad reports with clients
Worth knowing
- Not the Motion planner: this is a separate product from a different company, for analyzing ad creative.
- Only Starter has a published price; Pro and Growth, for over $50K and $125K of monthly ad spend, are priced through sales.
- Plan limits follow average monthly ad spend over the last 3 months; going over brings a sales contact, not a cutoff.
- It analyzes ads and suggests briefs but does not make the videos or images itself.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Motion you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 10 of the 11 other ad creative and reporting tools grade higher. It costs $600 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
- Connections that pull numbers from dozens of other services.
- It plugs into other products, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and YouTube Ads among them.
What this rests on. Motion’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
