Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 13 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade

Papyrs is a hosted intranet and internal wiki that teams assemble from pages and drag-and-drop widgets such as text, files, checklists, polls, discussions and embeds. Content is organized into subsites with their own access settings, and a section can be opened to clients as a portal. Paid plans are flat monthly prices for a band of users instead of a per-user fee, and a free Personal Wiki covers one user.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Papyrs, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Drag and drop keeps it away from the IT department, and there's a Markdown mode for typists.

The report card

Best for a drag-and-drop company intranet at a flat price

Papyrs is a hosted intranet and wiki that you build by dragging widgets onto a page, priced at a flat rate per band of users. The smallest paid plan is $89 a month for up to 20 users, and read-only viewers and guests count toward that limit. A custom domain and SAML need the $347 plan, form, calendar and video widgets the $899 one, and there are no native phone apps.

ToolGPA report cardPapyrsGraded Oct 10, 2026

Value for moneyDThe smallest paid plan is $89 a month for up to 20 users, where this category's middle is $15. Fill the band and it's fair per head; with five people it isn't. A custom domain and SAML need Company Wiki at $347, and the form, calendar and video widgets Company Intranet at $899.
Free plan and trialBThe free Personal Wiki runs for good with all core features, unlimited pages and 1 GB of storage, which one person could live on. It's one user and two subsites, though. Teams get a 14-day trial with everything and no automatic charge at the end.
FeaturesBIt covers the whole intranet job: pages built from widgets for text, files, checklists, polls and tables, subsites with their own access and notification settings, search across pages, files, discussions and forms, version history you can roll back, and a client portal.
Ease of useCNo app rating on record, and an intranet is a thing you build: subsites to lay out, menus and access settings per subsite, pages to assemble. Drag and drop keeps it away from the IT department, and there's a Markdown mode for typists.
Platforms and integrationsBA web app with an API, Zapier and connections to Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive and Okta. There are no native apps at all: phones get an iOS or Android web app.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Papyrs is for

  • Fits if you want an intranet at a flat price for a band of users, not a fee per user
  • Works for non-technical staff who need to build pages by drag and drop

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you're a handful of people, because the smallest paid plan is $89 a month billed annually
  • Tight if you have lots of occasional readers, since read-only viewers and guests count against the user limit
  • Skip it if you need form, calendar or video widgets on a smaller plan, as those need Company Intranet at $899 a month
  • Watch out: a custom domain and SAML single sign-on need Company Wiki at $347 a month
  • Not for you if you want native phone apps, as iOS and Android get web apps only; EU and UK customers are billed in euros

Good to know

Good for

  • Companies that want an intranet at a flat price instead of a per-user fee
  • Non-technical staff building intranet pages by drag and drop
  • Sharing a section of the wiki with clients as a portal

Worth knowing

  • The free Personal Wiki is for one user with two subsites and 1GB of storage; the smallest paid plan is $89 a month billed annually.
  • Everyone who can log in counts as a user, including read-only viewers and guests, against limits of 20, 40, 60 or 120 users.
  • A custom domain and SAML need Company Wiki, and form, calendar and video widgets need Company Intranet at $899 a month.
  • There are no native apps: mobile access is through iOS and Android web apps (PWAs). EU and UK customers are billed in euros.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Papyrs you could make: wiki, Markdown, forms and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 6 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 27 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools grade higher. It costs $1,068 a year.

What you could make

  • Wiki, Markdown, forms and templates: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Databases with views, filters and links between them.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Google Workspace and Microsoft Teams among them, and has an API.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on and roles and permissions.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Papyrs’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
