ScalaHosting
Shared and cloud VPS hosting with its own SPanel control panel
ScalaHosting report card
Fair · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 17, 2026
Best for small business sites with hosting and email
ScalaHosting runs on its own free SPanel, so you're not paying for cPanel licenses, and adds real-time SShield security, daily offsite backups and unlimited mailboxes. Three years of Mini cost $106.20 upfront, which is cheap. The catch: Mini hosts one site with no free domain, and several tools only work on SPanel.
Who ScalaHosting is for
- Great if you want hosting and email at your domain on one plan
- Handy when you'd rather not pay for cPanel licenses
- Good for sites that may move from shared hosting to a cloud VPS later
Who ScalaHosting is not for
- Tight if you need more than one site or a free domain, as both start on Start
- Skip it if you want cPanel and SShield together, as SShield is SPanel only
- Pricey if you pay monthly, at $11.95 with no intro price
Why ScalaHosting gets a 2.2
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- AValue for moneyMini is $106.20 upfront for 36 months, so two years cost $106.20, about $4.43 a month, under the $5.97 an A needs, with a third year thrown in. A 12-month term plus a year at $11.95 would be $178.80. Monthly is $11.95.
- FFree plan and trialNo free plan and no trial on record. Monthly billing has no intro price either, so the cheapest way in still means paying.
- BFeaturesDaily offsite backups, SShield real-time protection, a malware scanner, WordPress Manager with staging, an AI site builder and unlimited mailboxes with blacklist monitoring. Mini has no free domain, but the core job is covered.
- CEase of useNo app store rating to go on. SPanel or cPanel with one-click restores, but there's still a site, email and maybe a domain to set up.
- CPlatforms and integrationsA web panel only. Cloudflare, Google Lighthouse, Softaculous and the apps it installs are named, but no API is on record.

Keep ScalaHosting, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace ScalaHosting you would be making servers kept running, patched and backed up for you. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.2 is higher than 15 of the 21 other web hosts we grade. It costs $35.40 a year.
What you could not
- Servers kept running, patched and backed up for you.
- An engine that recognises new malware as it appears.
- It plugs into other products, WordPress, WooCommerce and cPanel among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. ScalaHosting’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
