Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 23 of the 39 other rank trackers we grade
Serpnest is a web-based rank tracker that updates keyword positions once a day and lets users run an on-demand check at any time. Every plan has the same features, from competitor tracking and white-label email reports to alerts, shareable report links and an API, so the plans differ only in how many keywords they track. Tracking a keyword on both desktop and mobile uses two of the plan's keywords.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Serpnest, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Nothing unusual to learn, but you still add domains, keywords, places and competitors before the graphs fill in.
- 1
Best for daily rank tracking with an API on every plan
Serpnest is a web rank tracker that checks keywords daily, and every plan has the same features, API and white-label reports included, so you only pick a keyword count, from $9 a month for 100.
- 2
Paid plans start at $9 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $9 per month for 100 keywords tracked daily, billed monthly.
- 3

- 5
Daily and on-demand checks
Positions update every 24 hours, and a one-click check fetches a keyword's current position whenever you need it.
- 6
Location and device tracking
Track rankings for a precise location on desktop, mobile or both; tracking both counts as two keywords.
- 7
Competitor tracking
Follow competitors' positions on the same keywords, with graphs comparing them against your own site.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 23 of 39

The report card
Best for daily rank tracking with an API on every plan
Serpnest is a web rank tracker that checks keywords daily, and every plan has the same features, API and white-label reports included, so you only pick a keyword count, from $9 a month for 100. But its own pages disagree on which search engines it covers, desktop plus mobile counts each keyword twice, and the current billing period is never refunded.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Starter is $9 a month for 100 daily keywords, or $90 a year, inside the cheapest quarter of rank trackers, with the API and white-label reports included. Desktop plus mobile counts as two keywords. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but a 14-day trial with no card needed. Once you pay, the terms say there are no refunds for the current billing period. |
| Features | C | Daily checks with on-demand refreshes, precise locations, competitors, white-label reports, alerts and folders. But the FAQ names only Google and Google My Business while the features page adds Bing, Yahoo, Baidu and YouTube, so you can't be sure what's covered. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. Nothing unusual to learn, but you still add domains, keywords, places and competitors before the graphs fill in. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with no desktop or phone app and no named integrations. The API is included on every plan, from the $9 one up. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Serpnest is for
- Fits if you want an API for your own reports on a $9 plan
- Works for freelancers tracking a few hundred keywords across lots of small sites
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you need rankings outside Google, as the FAQ names only Google while the features page adds Bing, Yahoo, Baidu and YouTube
- Tight if you track desktop and mobile, since each keyword then counts twice and halves the plan
- Not for you if you want refunds, as the current billing period isn't refunded
- Not for you if you want a desktop or phone app, as it's web only with no named integrations
- Pricey if you go past 5,000 keywords, as the custom builder runs up to $2,050 a month for 50,000
Good to know
Good for
- Freelancers and small sites tracking up to a few hundred keywords on a small budget
- Agencies that want white-label reports and an API without paying for a higher tier
- Teams that need to check a ranking on demand between the daily updates
Worth knowing
- Its pages disagree on coverage: the FAQ names Google and Google My Business only, while the features page also lists Bing, Yahoo, Baidu and YouTube.
- Tracking a keyword on desktop and mobile uses two keyword credits, which halves a plan's count.
- The cancellation policy says there are no refunds for the current billing period.
- Plans above 5,000 keywords come from a custom plan builder that stops at 50,000 keywords ($2,050 a month).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Serpnest you could make: reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $108 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Daily checks of where your pages rank in search results.
- An API that other software can build on.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Serpnest’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
