Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 19 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade
Strides is a goal and habit tracker for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, with a newer Android app. Four tracker types cover yes-or-no habits, numeric targets by a date, running averages and milestone-based projects, and each tracker gets its own charts, streaks and reminders. It is free for up to three goals and habits; Strides Plus removes the limit and adds sync, backups, tags and data export.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Strides, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card
Best for habits and number goals on Apple devices
Strides is a habit and goal tracker for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch that handles number goals and averages as well as yes-or-no habits. Free stops at three trackers on one device with no backup, sync needs Strides Plus, the App Store lists Plus from $4.99 to $149.99 without saying which price is which, the Android app is new, and there's no web or Windows version. If you're not all Apple, look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | No usable price at all: the App Store lists Strides Plus anywhere from $4.99 to $149.99 without saying which is monthly, which is yearly and which is the one-off, so there's nothing to set against the $3.33 a month this category charges in the middle. Sync and backups sit behind it. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Three goals or habits free, forever, with reminders, charts and no ads. Three is a wall most people reach in a week, and until you pay your trackers stay on one device with no backup, which is a lot to hold back. |
| Features | B | Four tracker types, so a yes-or-no habit, a number by a date, a running average and a project with milestones all sit in one list, plus 150+ templates, a pace line that says whether you're behind, bad-habit limits and as many reminders as you like. Tags, export and backups need Plus. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.8 on the App Store from about 19,200 ratings, the top of our ladder. You log with a swipe, and the Daily Goals view narrows the list to what's actually due, so there's no hunting. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Apple, really: iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, with Apple Health, iCloud and Siri Shortcuts, and sharing with an accountability partner that only works between Apple users. The Android app is very new, with a few hundred downloads, and there's no web or Windows version. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Strides is for
- Fits if your goals have numbers in them, like money saved, pages read or hours slept
- Works for people on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Watch with two or three things to track
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you're on Windows or the web, and think twice on Android, where the app is new with 100+ downloads
- Tight if you're staying free and have more than three habits on the go
- Pricey if all you want is sync or backups between your own phone and iPad, which need Plus
- Watch out: the App Store lists Plus from $4.99 to $149.99 without saying which is monthly, yearly or lifetime
- Not for you if your accountability buddy has an Android phone, as sharing runs on iCloud
Good to know
Good for
- People who track numeric goals as well as yes-or-no habits
- Apple users who want trackers on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch
- Anyone with only two or three goals, which fit the free plan
Worth knowing
- The free plan tracks three goals or habits; unlimited trackers, sync, backups, tags, export and the privacy lock need Strides Plus.
- The App Store lists Strides Plus purchases from $4.99 to $149.99 without saying which is monthly, annual or lifetime.
- Sharing progress with accountability partners requires iCloud and works on Apple devices only.
- The Android app is recent, showing 100+ downloads on Google Play, and no web or Windows version is listed.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Strides you could make: habit tracking, goals and templates. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
What you could make
- Habit tracking, goals and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Apps for macOS, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- People on the other end: accountability partners. No app builder makes those.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Strides’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
