Best for habits and number goals on Apple devices

Most habit apps only do yes or no. Strides does numbers too, so "floss every night", "save $5,000 by December" and "7.5 hours of sleep on average" can all sit in one list. It's free for three trackers. The catch? It's really an Apple app, and syncing between your own devices costs extra.

Who Strides is for

  • Great if your goals have numbers in them, like money saved, pages read or hours slept
  • Handy when you're all Apple and want your trackers on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Watch
  • Good for people with just two or three things to track, since that's free
  • A treat if you like charts, with a pace line, streak and success rate on every tracker

Who Strides is not for

  • Skip it if you're on Android or Windows, because this is an Apple app first
  • Tight if you're staying free and have more than three habits on the go
  • Pricey if all you want is sync between your own phone and iPad, which needs Plus
  • Not for you if your accountability buddy has an Android phone, as sharing runs on iCloud

Why Strides gets a 2.8

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyStrides Plus is listed at anything from $4.99 to $149.99, and the App Store doesn't say which price is monthly, yearly or lifetime. Sync and backups sit behind it, when Habitify syncs for free.
  • BFree plan and trialFree forever for three goals or habits, with reminders and charts and no ads. Three is tight, though, and there's no sync or backup until you pay.
  • AFeaturesFour kinds of tracker: yes-or-no habits, a number by a date, a running average, and projects with milestones. Plus 150+ templates, a pace line that shows if you're falling behind, streaks and as many reminders as you like.
  • BEase of use4.8 from about 19,200 App Store ratings, and you log with a swipe. Picking between four tracker types takes a little thought, and an older review says you can't change a tracker's type once it's made.
  • CPlatforms and integrationsiPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, with Apple Health and Siri Shortcuts. The Android app is new, with only a few hundred downloads on Google Play. No web or Windows version.

The good

So what's Strides good at? Goals that aren't just a tick.

Most habit trackers ask one question: did you do it today, yes or no. That's fine for "floss". It's useless for "save $5,000 by December".

Strides has four kinds of tracker. Habit is the yes-or-no one, and Target is a number by a date. Average is for things like "7.5 hours of sleep a night", and Project breaks a big job into milestones.

Target comes with a pace line, and we really like that. It shows where you should be by today, and the bar goes green if you're on track and red if you're behind. So you find out in March that you're slipping. Not in December.

Don't fancy building it all yourself? There are more than 150 templates, and you can set as many reminders as you want on each tracker.

It's well looked after, too. The App Store's version history shows 18 updates between late January and early October 2026.

The stuff that'll bug you

The price list is a puzzle. The App Store shows Strides Plus at a spread of prices from $4.99 to $149.99, and doesn't say which is monthly, which is yearly and which is the lifetime one. You only find out inside the app.

Sync is paid, and that's the one that'd bug us most. Your trackers stay on one device unless you buy Plus. Backups are a Plus thing too.

It's an Apple app at heart. There's an Android version now, but it's very new, with only a few hundred downloads on Google Play. There's nothing for the web or for Windows.

Sharing is Apple-only as well. You can invite someone to watch your progress on a goal, but it runs on iCloud, so a friend with an Android phone is out.

And three free trackers isn't many. One App Store reviewer from July 2025 says they were only offered one. Strides' help page still says three, so check what you actually get before you settle in.

Money

Start free. You get three goals or habits with reminders and charts, no ads and no time limit. If you've only a couple of things to work on, you may never pay.

Past three, it's Strides Plus. That takes the limit off and adds sync, backups, progress reports, tags, export and a privacy lock.

So what does it cost? Honestly, we can't tell you. The US App Store lists Plus purchases from $4.99 up to $149.99 without saying what each one is. Strides' help page says there's a monthly plan, a yearly plan and a one-off Lifetime plan, and gives no prices.

So open the upgrade screen and read it properly before you tap anything. You'd guess the small numbers are monthly and the big ones are lifetime, but it is a guess.

For a sense of scale, Habitify's Plus is $29.99 a year and Streaks is $5.99 once. If Strides wants a lot more than that, ask yourself whether you need the number goals.

What actual users say

Strides has 4.8 on the App Store from about 19,200 ratings. That's a lot of happy people for what its help page calls a small company.

What do they like? That it bends to fit them. Reviewers track brushing their teeth, reading, workouts, weight and time in the art studio, all in one list. One says every time they wished it did something, it turned out it already did.

Support gets a nod as well. One reviewer emailed a question about their subscription and says the answer came from the CEO.

And the unhappy ones? It's nearly all about money. Reviews moaning about the subscription go back to 2018, and the tune hasn't changed: they like the app, and they don't like paying every year for a tracker.

Several asked for a one-off price. Going by the help page, there is a Lifetime plan now.

Hacker News barely mentions it. Where it does come up, it's listed next to Habitify and Productive as one of the pay-for-more-habits apps.

What is Strides?

Strides is a goal and habit tracker for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, with a newer Android app. Four tracker types cover yes-or-no habits, numeric targets by a date, running averages and milestone-based projects, and each tracker gets its own charts, streaks and reminders. It is free for up to three goals and habits; Strides Plus removes the limit and adds sync, backups, tags and data export.

Strides has a free plan. Paid plans start at $4.99 (lowest Strides Plus in-app purchase; billing basis not shown). See every plan

Worth knowing

  • Sharing progress with accountability partners requires iCloud and works on Apple devices only.
  • The Android app is recent, showing 100+ downloads on Google Play, and no web or Windows version is listed.

Key features

Four tracker types
Habit trackers log repeating actions, Target trackers aim for a number by a date, Average trackers follow a repeating number, and Project trackers break work into milestones.
Templates and SMART goal setup
Start from more than 150 tracker templates or set a SMART goal through a 3-step process, then adjust the defaults.
Daily Goals view
Filters all trackers down to the ones that need logging now, based on their repeat settings. Getting every tracker done earns a perfect day.
Charts and progress reports
Each tracker has progress bars with an on-track pace line, streaks, success rates, calendars and line charts. Reports summarize all trackers by week, month, year or all time.
Reminders and bad-habit tracking
Trackers can have as many reminders as you like on the days they are due, and a Bad Habit setting counts down against a limit instead of up to a goal.
Accountability partners
Invite other people to see progress on chosen goals or habits, or work on a goal together. This needs iCloud and works on Apple devices only.
