Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 13 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade
Tango records a workflow as you click through it and produces a step-by-step guide with screenshots, highlights and descriptions. Guides are shared by link, embedded or exported, and Guide Me replays them as on-screen walkthroughs inside the software itself. Capture runs through a Chrome or Edge extension, with a Mac and Windows desktop app on paid plans, and Enterprise adds pinned in-app guidance and browser automations.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Tango, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for turning your clicks into how-to guides
Tango watches you click through a task and writes the how-to guide with screenshots, and Guide Me walks the next person through it on the real screen.
- 2
Paid plans start at $15 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $15 per user / month, billed annually (workspaces of 3+ users).
- 3
There is a free plan
Free forever: up to 5 workflows in the team library, browser capture, link and embed sharing, and up to 10 free users per workspace.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, macOS and Windows, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Workflow capture
Click through a process and Tango builds a guide with a screenshot, highlight and description for each step. Browser capture is free; desktop capture needs Pro or Enterprise.
- 6
Guide Me walkthroughs
Guide Me replays a workflow as a live walkthrough that highlights each step inside the web app. Workspace members get it on every plan; guests can try it 3 times.
- 7
Editing and blurring
Pro adds screenshot annotation and redaction, blurring of sensitive data during capture, voice transcription and AI-generated content. Automatic PII detection is Enterprise only.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 13 of 51
That is against the other docs and wiki tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
The plain part of Tango you could make: documents. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

The report card
Best for turning your clicks into how-to guides
Tango watches you click through a task and writes the how-to guide with screenshots, and Guide Me walks the next person through it on the real screen. The free plan holds only 5 workflows and has no export. One or two people on Pro pay $22 each a month on annual billing, desktop capture is paid, and there's no phone capture and no Firefox or Safari extension.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Pro is $15 a person a month billed annually once there are 3 or more of you, which is this category's middle figure exactly. One or two of you pay $22 each. Every member of a Pro workspace needs a paid seat, and Pins, automations, SSO and translation are Enterprise only. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free forever for up to 10 users, with browser capture and sharing by link or embed. The cap is the thing: 5 workflows in the team library, and no PDF, HTML or Markdown export. Five guides go fast. |
| Features | C | Click through a process and you get a guide with a screenshot, highlight and description per step, and Guide Me replays it as a walkthrough on the real screen. It does that fully, and it's a narrower job than a wiki: no capture on phones or tablets, and Guide Me doesn't work on desktop-app captures. |
| Ease of use | B | No app rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: add the Chrome or Edge extension, click through the task, and the guide builds itself with a screenshot for every step. No writing-up afterwards. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app, a Chrome and Edge extension and Mac and Windows apps on paid plans. The connections are thin, though: Salesforce and HubSpot and no more. No mobile app, and no extension for Firefox or Safari. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Tango is for
- Fits if you keep explaining the same task in a web app and want it written up
- Works for new starters who need walking through software on the screen itself
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you need to capture on a phone or tablet, or use Firefox or Safari, as Tango doesn't
- Tight if you're staying free, because the team library stops at 5 workflows with no PDF, HTML or Markdown export
- Pricey if only one or two of you need Pro, at $22 a person a month yearly, and every member of a Pro workspace needs a seat
- Watch out: the desktop app is paid, and Guide Me doesn't work on workflows captured with it
- Not for you if you need Pins, automations, SSO or translation without an Enterprise platform fee; integrations are Salesforce and HubSpot only
Good to know
Good for
- Documenting how to do a task in a web app without writing it up
- Onboarding staff onto new software with on-screen walkthroughs
- Small teams: a free workspace holds up to 10 users
Worth knowing
- The Free plan stores only 5 workflows in the team library and has no PDF, HTML or Markdown export.
- The Mac and Windows desktop app is limited to Pro and Enterprise, and Guide Me does not work on workflows captured with it.
- Tango has no mobile app and does not capture on phones or tablets; the extension is for Chrome and Edge, not Firefox or Safari.
- Every member of a Pro workspace needs a paid seat, and Pins, automations, SSO and translation are Enterprise only.

Part 03 · Features
What it does

4
Places it runs: Web, macOS, Windows and Browser extension
Captures workflows as step-by-step guides with screenshots. Here is what it does, as its own site describes it, and what it covers: AI features, screenshots, documents.
It does that fully, and it's a narrower job than a wiki: no capture on phones or tablets, and Guide Me doesn't work on desktop-app captures.
- Workflow capture

- Sharing and export
- Every plan shares a workflow by URL or embed. PDF download, HTML and Markdown export, video embeds, and viewership and completion insights start on Pro.
- Pins
- On Enterprise, guidance can be pinned to a button, field or screen in a web tool, so a note, warning or link to the full guide appears when someone hovers over it.
- Automations
- Enterprise workspaces can turn guides into browser automations that carry out repetitive steps and fill in extracted data while a person keeps control of the decisions.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
13/51
Other docs and wiki tools it is graded above
Tango's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 13 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade, and level with 11.
It stands best on ease of use (B, above 32 of 51) and worst on features (C, above 1).
Its paid plans start at $15 a month for each person, against a middle price of $16.50 for the category: 20 of the 41 others that charge start lower.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. 9 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Tango you could make: documents. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 27 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools grade higher. It costs $180 a year.
What you could make
- Documents: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Capture tools hooked into the operating system.
- A real app for macOS and Windows. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Tango’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
