Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 13 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade

Tettra is an internal knowledge base aimed at cutting down repeated questions. Teams write pages in its editor or bring in existing Google Docs and other files, and an AI bot called Kai answers questions from that content in Tettra and in Slack. Verification schedules and content reports help subject-matter experts keep pages current.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Tettra, taken from its own pages and our grades.

SAML SSO and SCIM cost extra below Enterprise, the interface is English-only, and there are no desktop or phone apps.

The report card

Best for Slack teams tired of answering the same question

Tettra is an internal knowledge base whose bot, Kai, answers from your pages inside Slack and reminds experts to keep them current. There's no free plan, and the one self-serve plan has a 10-user minimum, so four people pay $80 a month for ten seats. SAML SSO and SCIM cost extra below Enterprise, the interface is English-only, and there are no desktop or phone apps.

ToolGPA report cardTettraGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCScaling is $8 a user a month billed yearly, or $10 monthly, in the broad middle band here, with AI answers, the Slack bot and the API all in. The 10-user minimum is the sting: four people still pay for ten, so $80 a month. SAML SSO and SCIM are paid add-ons unless you go Enterprise.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan. The trial is 30 days with all features and no card asked for, which is the ordinary arrangement. When it ends you need a card to carry on.
FeaturesBIt covers the internal knowledge-base job: pages written here or built from Google Docs and Markdown files, a store of answered questions, Kai answering from all of it in Tettra and Slack, verification on a schedule, reports on what's stale or unowned, and read-only users, guests and page locking.
Ease of useCNo app rating on record, and there's arranging to do: categories to lay out, experts to name, verification schedules to set, Slack to wire in, ten people to bring along. Pulling in Google Docs you already have saves the blank page. The interface is English-only.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb only: Tettra's site lists no desktop or mobile apps at all. It works through Slack and connects to Google Workspace, GitHub and Zapier, with API access on the Scaling plan.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Tettra is for

  • Fits if your team works in Slack and keeps fielding the same questions
  • Works for teams whose knowledge already sits in Google Docs and could become a wiki

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you're a team of three or four, as the plan has a 10-user minimum, so $80 a month at least
  • Not for you if you want a free plan, because there's only the 30-day trial and then a card
  • Not for you if you need the app itself in another language, as the interface is English-only
  • Pricey if you need SAML SSO or SCIM, which are paid add-ons on Scaling and included only in Enterprise
  • Skip it if you want a desktop or phone app, since it runs in a browser and through Slack only

Good to know

Good for

  • Slack-based teams that field the same questions repeatedly
  • Support and operations teams building an internal knowledge base
  • Companies that want to reuse existing Google Docs as a wiki

Worth knowing

  • There is no free plan: a card is required once the 30-day trial ends, and the Scaling plan has a 10-user minimum.
  • Single sign-on (SAML) and SCIM provisioning are paid add-ons on Scaling and are included only in Enterprise.
  • The app interface is English-only, although content can be written in any language.
  • Tettra's site lists no desktop or mobile apps; it is used in a browser and through its Slack integration.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Tettra you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 27 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools grade higher. It costs $96 a year.

What you could make

  • Wiki: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • A search engine with an AI model behind it.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Google Workspace and GitHub among them, and has an API.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Tettra’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
