Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 6 of the 30 other form and survey tools we grade
VideoAsk, made by Typeform, builds interactive video forms: you record or upload a video for each step, and respondents answer by video or voice. It is used for asynchronous interviews, lead capture, testimonials and feedback, with conditional logic to branch between steps. Plans are priced by the minutes of video and audio processed each month rather than by the number of responses.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about VideoAsk, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Record a question, share it, and the replies come back as video or voice you can answer the same way.
- 1
Best for forms people answer by video or voice
VideoAsk, made by Typeform, turns a form into a conversation: you record a video for each step, and people answer by video or voice.
- 2
Paid plans start at $24 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $24 per month, billed yearly ($288); $30 billed monthly.
- 3
There is a free plan
Start plan: 20 minutes of video or audio processing a month, 3 questions per videoask and 3 team members, with conditional logic, Stripe payments and Zapier. Videoasks carry VideoAsk branding.
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5

Record in the app or upload a video for each step, and let respondents reply by video or voice. The free plan allows 3 questions per videoask.
- 6
Conditional logic and video funnels
Send respondents to different steps depending on their answers to build branching video funnels. Conditional logic is on every plan.
- 7
Asynchronous interviews and replies
Collect recorded answers from candidates or customers and reply to each person by video, without scheduling a meeting.

The report card
Best for forms people answer by video or voice
VideoAsk, made by Typeform, turns a form into a conversation: you record a video for each step, and people answer by video or voice. Plans are sold by minutes of video processed, with 20 a month free and 100 on the $24 plan, and unused minutes don't carry over. Your own branding and domain need Brand at $40, and if a plain text form would do, look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | $24 a month billed yearly is exactly this category's middle price, and it buys 100 minutes of video or audio. The meter is strict: unused minutes don't carry over, and your own branding and domain need Brand at $40. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Start is free and includes logic, Stripe payments, Zapier and transcription, but 20 minutes of processing a month is a cap you'll meet in an afternoon, with 3 questions per videoask and VideoAsk branding on everything. |
| Features | C | It does the video-conversation job completely: a recorded question per step, answers by video or voice, branching funnels, transcription, scheduling, live calls and AI summaries. But that's a smaller job than this category's, and a plain form isn't really what it builds. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.9 on the App Store, though from about 501 ratings, half the 1,000 we want behind a top mark. Record a question, share it, and the replies come back as video or voice you can answer the same way. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web plus both phones, with Zapier reaching more than 1,500 apps on every plan, Stripe for payments, and API access and webhooks from Grow. No desktop app, which is what an A needs. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who VideoAsk is for
- Fits if you're a recruiter who wants recorded first interviews without scheduling a meeting
- Works for collecting video testimonials, customer feedback or leads that start with a personal video
Who it is not for
- Tight if you expect a lot of replies, because plans are capped by minutes and unused ones don't carry over
- Pricey if you want your own branding and domain, which need Brand from $40 a month billed yearly
- Tight if you stay free: 20 minutes a month, 3 questions per videoask, 3 team members and VideoAsk branding
- Watch out: team members are capped at 3, 5 and 10 by plan, and API access and file uploads start at Grow
- Skip it if a plain text form would do the job, since video is the whole point here
Good to know
Good for
- Recruiters running asynchronous video interviews
- Sales and marketing teams capturing leads with a personal video
- Collecting video testimonials and customer feedback
Worth knowing
- Plans are limited by minutes of video and audio processed: 20 a month on Start, 100 on Grow and 200 on Brand.
- Going over the monthly minutes requires an upgrade, and unused minutes do not carry over to the next month.
- Removing VideoAsk branding and sharing links on your own domain need Brand, from $40 per month billed yearly.
- Team members are capped at 3 on Start, 5 on Grow and 10 on Brand.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of VideoAsk you could make: forms and surveys. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 30 other form and survey tools grade higher. It costs $288 a year.
What you could make
- Forms and surveys: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Speech turned into text you can trust.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Zapier, Stripe and Google Analytics among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. VideoAsk’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
