Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 16 of the 30 other website and landing page builders we grade
Weebly is a drag-and-drop builder for websites, blogs and online stores, with responsive themes and an App Center for third-party add-ons. It has belonged to Square since 2018, and its stores take payments through Square. Even the free plan includes a shopping cart, inventory, coupons and lead capture forms, while a custom domain and removing Square ads need paid plans.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Weebly, taken from its own pages and our grades.
If you already take payments with Square, it slots right in.
- 1
Best for small shops already taking payments with Square
Weebly is Square's site builder, and even the free plan comes with a shopping cart for unlimited items.
- 2
Paid plans start at $13 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $13 per month, billed annually ($16 billed monthly).
- 3
There is a free plan
a site with Square ads, SSL, embed code, SEO tools, lead capture and a shopping cart with unlimited items, coupons and inventory. No custom domain.
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Drag-and-drop builder and themes
Pages, blogs and stores are laid out by dragging elements onto responsive themes that adapt to phones and tablets, without writing code.
- 6
Online store
Every plan has a shopping cart with unlimited items, item options, inventory, an automatic tax calculator, coupons, Square gift cards and in-store pickup.
- 7
Shipping and digital goods
From Personal, stores can sell downloadable goods with download limits, calculate shipping and print shipping labels from the dashboard.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 16 of 30
That is against the other website and landing page builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Weebly you would be making a builder that other people can use without writing code. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for small shops already taking payments with Square
Weebly is Square's site builder, and even the free plan comes with a shopping cart for unlimited items. If you already take payments with Square, it slots right in. But the Square ads only come off at $15 a month on yearly billing, and PayPal waits for the $32 plan.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Professional is $15 a month on yearly billing ($20 monthly), and that's the plan a business would buy, since it's the first without Square ads. That's bang in the middle of what site builders charge. Personal at $13 puts your domain on but keeps the ads. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Free for good, and it's a real site: SSL, SEO tools, lead capture forms and a store with unlimited items, coupons and inventory. The catches are Square ads and no custom domain, so a business will pay sooner or later. |
| Features | C | Pages, a blog and a store with inventory, coupons, shipping labels and digital goods, plus an App Center. The basics, done. But payments go through Square unless you're on Performance, where PayPal and abandoned cart emails live, and nothing in the listing covers bookings or memberships. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. Dragging elements onto themes that adjust for phones is about as gentle as it gets, but you're still building a whole site, pages, products and all, before it's ready. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app that ties into Square, PayPal, Instagram and Facebook, with an App Center of third-party add-ons inside the editor. No desktop or phone app is listed. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Weebly is for
- Great if you already take payments with Square and want the shop online too
- Handy when you want a free store with unlimited items and don't mind Square ads
- Good for small shops that want phone support without paying much, from $13 a month
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want PayPal at checkout, as that needs Performance at $32 a month
- Not for you if you need bookings or memberships, which the listing doesn't cover
- Tight if you're staying free, since there's no custom domain and the Square ads stay
Good to know
Good for
- Small shops that already take payments with Square
- A simple store or site at no cost, if Square ads are acceptable
- Small businesses that want phone support on a low-priced plan
Worth knowing
- The free plan shows Square ads and cannot use a custom domain; ads are removed only from Professional up.
- PayPal payments, item reviews and abandoned cart emails are limited to Performance; other plans take payments through Square.
- The included domain is a credit for one year on annual plans and must be registered within 45 days of buying the plan.
- Unlimited storage, advanced site stats and password protection start on Professional; digital goods and shipping labels need Personal or higher.
