Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 54 of the 79 other project management tools we grade
Wrike is a work management platform for planning projects, taking in requests and tracking delivery across teams. It offers board, table, calendar and Gantt views, dashboards, automation and built-in file proofing, with AI features split into Essentials and Elite tiers. The two cheapest paid plans are capped by team size, and the larger Pinnacle and Apex plans are sold by quote.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Wrike, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Dragging a task along the Gantt chart to move its dates is as plain as it sounds.
- 1
Best for teams that take requests and sign off work
Wrike is a work management tool with a Gantt chart, request forms and proofing for signing off designs, and a free plan with unlimited users.
- 2
Paid plans start at $10 a month for each person

- 3
There is a free plan
Unlimited users, project and task management, board and table views, web, desktop and mobile apps, and 2 GB of storage per account.
- 4
It runs on 5 platforms

- 5
Gantt charts and boards
An interactive timeline shows dependencies and milestones and lets tasks be dragged to new dates. Board and table views are on every plan; Gantt charts start on Team.
- 6
Request forms
Request forms gather incoming work from internal and external requesters into one place. Included from the Business plan.
- 7
Proofing and approvals
Reviewers mark up and compare visual assets, with approval chains for internal and external reviewers. Included from the Business plan.

The report card
Best for teams that take requests and sign off work
Wrike is a work management tool with a Gantt chart, request forms and proofing for signing off designs, and a free plan with unlimited users. But forms, proofing and time tracking wait for Business at $25 a user a month, seats are sold in groups of five or more, Business is annual only, SAML needs a quoted plan, and free storage is 2 GB for the whole account.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Team is $10 a user a month billed annually, the dear quarter here, and it only fits 2 to 15 users. The parts people come for, request forms, time tracking and proofing, sit on Business at $25, three times the $8 middle. Seats are sold in fives up to 30, as well. |
| Free plan and trial | B | A free plan a team could really live on: unlimited users with task and project management, board and table views, and the web, desktop and mobile apps. Not an A, though, because storage is 2 GB for the whole account and Gantt charts start on Team. |
| Features | B | It covers the whole job: an interactive Gantt chart with dependencies and milestones, boards, tables, calendars, dashboards, rule-based automation, request forms and proofing with approval chains, plus budgeting and capacity planning on the quoted plans. monday and Smartsheet cover the same. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.64 from about 6,900 App Store ratings, a shade under our top band. Dragging a task along the Gantt chart to move its dates is as plain as it sounds. Picking a plan takes more thought, with five of them and the AI split into Essentials and Elite. |
| Platforms and integrations | A | The full set: web, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, Adobe Creative Cloud, Jira, GitHub and Zoom wired in, and a public API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Wrike is for
- Fits if you're a marketing or creative team that reviews and approves assets on Business at $25 a user
- Works for groups that want to start free with unlimited users on boards and tables
Who it is not for
- Pricey if you want request forms, proofing or time tracking, which start at Business, $25 a user a month
- Not for you if you need single sign-on at a published price, as SAML is only on Pinnacle and Apex
- Tight if you're free and share lots of files, with 2 GB for the whole account and no Gantt chart
- Watch out: seats come in fives up to 30, Team stops at 15 users, and Business and above are annual only
- Watch out: whiteboards are a $15 a user add-on below Apex
Good to know
Good for
- Marketing and creative teams that review and approve assets
- Departments handling a steady flow of incoming work requests

Worth knowing
- Seats are sold in groups: fives up to 30 seats, tens from 30 to 100 seats and 25s above 100.
- Team is limited to 2 to 15 users and Business to 5 to 200; Business and higher plans are annual only.
- Request forms, time tracking and file proofing are not included below the Business plan.
- SAML single sign-on is only on Pinnacle and Apex, and Wrike Whiteboard is a $15 per user / month add-on below Apex.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Wrike you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 54 of the 79 other project management tools we grade. It costs $120 a year.
What you could make
- Tasks, kanban boards, Gantt & timelines and time tracking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Wrike’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
