Who each one suits
Dyad
- Developers and hobbyists who want generated code kept on their own machine
- People who already pay for AI model access and want to reuse it
- Building full-stack web apps on Supabase or Neon without a hosted builder
v0
- Teams already deploying on Vercel
- Designers and product managers turning mockups into working interfaces
- Developers who want generated code in a GitHub repository with pull requests
Worth knowing
Dyad
- Dyad is a desktop app only: there is no browser or mobile version, and the FAQ says it is not built to run on a server.
- Linux support is experimental: the FAQ says Linux is not tested, may have bugs and does not auto-update.
- It builds web apps. Turning one into a mobile app through Capacitor is experimental, and desktop apps are not supported.
- On the free app you supply and pay for your own AI model access, and Basic Agent stops at 20 messages a day.
v0
- New Free accounts get $5 of credits once; they do not renew, and Free users must upgrade to buy more.
- Paid plans are priced per user, and generation pauses when credits run out until more are bought.
- A v0 plan is separate from a Vercel subscription and is not included in Vercel Hobby, Pro or Enterprise.
- The site lists an iOS app but no Android or desktop app.
Key features
Dyad
- Runs on your own computer
- Dyad is a desktop app that keeps project files on your disk and sets no limit on the number of apps. Paired with a local model, it works without an internet connection.
- Bring your own AI model
- Use your own API keys for providers such as Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic and OpenRouter, sign in with a ChatGPT subscription, or run local models through Ollama or LM Studio.
- Agent mode
- Basic Agent checks for build errors, runs tests and debugs from logs, limited to 20 messages a day on Free. Pro Agent adds web search, website cloning and image generation.
- Database and auth integrations
- Supabase and Neon connect from inside the app to give a full-stack project its database, schema migrations and user authentication.
- GitHub sync and deployment
- An app can be connected to a GitHub repository and synced from Dyad. The docs walk through deploying that repository on Vercel, and any other cloud host can be used.
- Security scan and MCP servers
- A built-in security review looks for problems such as SQL injection and missing auth protection, and MCP servers can be added for browser tools, web search or custom APIs.
v0
- Prompt-to-app agent
- Describe an idea, or attach a screenshot or Figma file, and v0 generates the interface and code, then diagnoses and fixes errors as it iterates.
- Design Mode
- Edit a generated interface visually instead of re-prompting. Design Mode is listed among the features of the Free plan.
- Deployments on Vercel
- Working branches get preview deployments with their own URLs, and publishing updates the project's production deployment, with custom domains available.
- GitHub sync
- Projects can be backed by a GitHub repository, with the branch diff, pull request and CI checks visible next to the Publish button.
- Database integrations
- One-click integrations with Upstash, Neon, Supabase and Vercel Blob add data persistence, and a Snowflake connection supports data apps.
- Model choice and Platform API
- Four v0 models are priced per million tokens, from v0 Mini to v0 Max Fast. A REST Platform API and SDK expose projects and chats to your own code.
