Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 2 of the 33 other team communication apps we grade
Brosix gives a company its own closed messaging network: only users added by an administrator can join, and admins decide who can talk to whom and which features are switched on. It covers one-to-one and group chat, chat rooms, voice and video calls, screen sharing with remote desktop, and file transfer of any size. Small teams pay a fixed monthly price for 20 or 50 users, and larger ones pay per user.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Brosix, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for a closed, admin-controlled chat network for an office
Brosix gives a company its own closed chat network, where nobody gets in unless an admin adds them and admins decide who can talk to whom.
- 2

- 4
It runs on 6 platforms

- 6
Chat and chat rooms
One-to-one and group chats with replies, mentions, read receipts and edit or delete, plus chat rooms for teams, projects or departments and a searchable history.
- 7
Voice and video calls
Audio and video calls between team members are included in every plan, and the Essentials plan cards describe them as unlimited.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 2 of 33
That is against the other team communication apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Brosix you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for a closed, admin-controlled chat network for an office
Brosix gives a company its own closed chat network, where nobody gets in unless an admin adds them and admins decide who can talk to whom. Small offices pay a flat $40 a month for up to 20 users. But there's no free plan, 2FA and multiple admins are kept for the per-user Ultimate plan, some features only exist in the older Windows Classic app, and end-to-end encryption covers direct connections only.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Essentials 20 is a flat $40 a month for up to 20 users on yearly billing. Fill all 20 seats and that's $2 a head. With five of you it's $8 each, more than the $7 team chat typically starts at, and Ultimate is $6 a user. So: ordinary money, unless you fill the seats. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan. Every plan opens with a 14-day trial with no card needed. After the fortnight you pay or you stop. |
| Features | C | The basics are here: chat and chat rooms with mentions and read receipts, voice and video calls, screen sharing with remote desktop, file transfer of any size. The listing names its own gaps, though. The whiteboard, broadcast messages and peer-to-peer transfer are only in the older Windows Classic app. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. Somebody has to build the network before anyone can chat: an admin adds every user by hand in the web control panel and sets who may see whom. Not hard, but it is a job. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, so the device list is complete. The other half is thinner: no public API on record, and the integrations are Zapier, Make, Pipedream, Integrately and viaSocket plus Active Directory, which is middleware rather than apps that plug in. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Brosix is for
- Fits if you run a small office and want one fixed monthly price for 20 or 50 users
- Works for healthcare, finance or law offices that need a closed network an admin controls
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a free plan, as there's only a 14-day trial
- Pricey if you're a handful of people, since the lowest plan is $40 a month however few of you there are
- Not for you if you need end-to-end encryption everywhere, because it only applies to direct peer-to-peer connections
- Watch out: multiple admins, user permissions, 2FA and Active Directory need Ultimate at $6 a user a month
- Watch out: the whiteboard, broadcasts and peer-to-peer transfer are only in the older Windows Classic app

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Brosix you would be making chat that a whole team counts on staying up. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 26 of the 33 other team communication apps grade higher. It costs $480 a year.
What you could not
- Chat that a whole team counts on staying up.
- Video calls.
- Storing and serving files for other people.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Zapier, Make and Pipedream among them.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Brosix’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
