Value for money
BEssentials 20 is a flat $40 a month for up to 20 users, billed yearly. Fill all 20 seats and that's $2 a head, which is a bargain. With five of you it's $8 each, a bit over the $7 team chat typically starts at. Ultimate is $6 a user, with 2FA and user permissions.
APro is $4.50 a user a month billed annually, or $6 monthly. That's clearly under the going rate for team chat, and it gets you unlimited searchable messages and channels, 10 GB per member and group video calls.
Free plan and trial
CNo free plan. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and you don't need a credit card for it. After that you pay or you stop.
BStarter is free for teams of 1 to 20, with unlimited messages. But only 10,000 of them are searchable, you get 10 public channels and 5 GB for the whole team, and video calls are 1-1 only. Tight for a busy team.
Features
BOne-to-one and group chat with read receipts and mentions, chat rooms, voice and video calls, screen sharing with remote desktop control, and file transfer of any size. Solid basics. But the whiteboard, broadcast messages and peer-to-peer transfer are only in the older Windows Classic app.
APublic and private channels, direct messages, voice notes, and video calls with screen sharing. Then shared to-dos with due dates, notes, anonymous polls and reminders, all in the app. Group video does stop at 20 participants.
Ease of use
BNo App Store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. An admin adds the users from a web control panel and that's the network made. It's pitched at teams without dedicated IT staff who want chat set up in minutes.
BNo App Store rating is on record, so a B is as high as we go. It's an app you install and start chatting in, and the All Channel feed gathers new messages in one place.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android. It connects to other tools through Zapier, Make, Pipedream and Integrately, and Ultimate adds Active Directory integration. Just note that a few features only live in the Windows Classic app.

Key features

Brosix

Private team network
Only users an administrator adds can join, so outsiders never appear in a contact list. Admins create and remove users and set who can see whom from a web control panel.
Chat and chat rooms
One-to-one and group chats with replies, mentions, read receipts and edit or delete, plus chat rooms for teams, projects or departments and a searchable history.
Voice and video calls
Audio and video calls between team members are included in every plan, and the Essentials plan cards describe them as unlimited.
Screen sharing and remote desktop
Share a screen or take remote control of a colleague's desktop to sort out a problem, and capture and send screenshots from inside the app.
File transfer
Send files of any size to a person or a group. The Windows Classic app also offers direct peer-to-peer transfer, a whiteboard and broadcast messages.
Encryption and compliance controls
Chat, calls and files are encrypted with AES-256, with end-to-end encryption on direct peer-to-peer connections. Ultimate adds 2FA, IP address permissions and chat history expiration.

Flock

Channels and direct messages
Public channels open to the whole company, private invite-only channels, and 1-1 and group messages, with an All Channel feed that gathers new messages in one place.
Video and voice calls
1-1 video calls are on the free plan. Pro and Enterprise add group video calls with up to 20 participants and screen sharing. Voice notes can be sent in any channel.
To-dos, notes, polls and reminders
Discussions can be turned into shared to-dos with due dates, alongside team notes organized by channel, anonymous polls and reminders.
File sharing
Files are shared in chats and channels. Storage is 5 GB for the whole team on Starter, 10 GB per member on Pro and 20 GB per member on Enterprise.
App store and API
The app store lists integrations such as Google Drive, Asana, Trello, Jira, GitHub and Zoom, with webhooks and developer documentation for building custom apps.
Admin and security controls
Paid plans allow multiple team admins and multiple approved sign-up domains. Single sign-on and Active Directory sync are listed under Enterprise.
