Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

1.8

GPA, above 0 of the 19 other help desk and live chat tools we grade

Deskpro is a help desk for customer, IT and HR support that puts email, chat, phone, social, WhatsApp and SMS tickets into one inbox, with a branded help center and built-in reports. It runs in Deskpro's cloud or, as Deskpro Private, on your own servers or private cloud, and every plan is sold per agent with a minimum number of agents.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Deskpro, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for teams that must host support data themselves

That suits public sector, health and education teams with strict data rules.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $39 a month for each person

As its pricing page puts it: $39 per agent / month, billed annually (minimum 5 agents).

  3. 3

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  4. 4

    Tickets from every channel

Email, chat, phone, contact forms, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, SMS, Slack and Microsoft Teams arrive as tickets in shared queues with SLAs.

  5. 5

    Help center

A branded portal with a knowledge base, guides, news and a community, with 3, 10 or unlimited brand help centers by plan.

  6. 6

    Deskpro AI

Ticket summaries, draft replies, intent and sentiment detection, tone and grammar help, and an AI chatbot, from the Professional plan.

  7. 7

    A 1.8 GPA, above 0 of 19

That is against the other help desk and live chat tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  8. 8

    Keep it

To replace Deskpro you would be making an AI model answering your customers from your own help articles. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for teams that must host support data themselves

Deskpro is a full help desk, every channel from email to WhatsApp to phone, a help center and 150+ reports, and you can run it on your own servers. That suits public sector, health and education teams with strict data rules. But there's no trial, the minimum is 5 agents at $39, and the AI waits on Professional, sold for at least 10 agents.

ToolGPA report cardDeskproGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDTeam is $39 an agent a month billed yearly, where the dearest tenth of help desks starts, and it's sold for at least 5 agents, so the floor is $195 a month even for one person. Deskpro AI needs Professional at $59 with a 10-agent minimum.
Free plan and trialFNothing free. No free plan and no self-serve trial; the site offers a self-guided tour and demos instead, so you pay before your team can work in it.
FeaturesBTickets from email, chat, phone, forms, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, SMS, Slack and Teams, a help center with a community, 150+ reports, AI on Professional and a self-hosted edition. It covers the whole job.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record. It's a big system, with queues, SLAs, help centers and brands to set up, and the site steers you to demos rather than letting you start alone.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Jira, HubSpot, Zapier, GitHub, Aircall and Asana, and an API. No desktop app, so it stops at a B.
Grade point averageWeak, out of 4.01.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

  • Pricey if you're a team of one or two, since you pay for 5 agents regardless
  • Skip it if you want to try before you buy, as there's no self-serve trial
  • Tight if you want AI help, since Deskpro AI starts on Professional with 10 agents minimum

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Deskpro you would be making an AI model answering your customers from your own help articles. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 19 of the 19 other help desk and live chat tools grade higher. It costs $468 a year.

What you could make

  • Help desk and help center: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An AI model answering your customers from your own help articles.
  • A chat box on your site that reaches you the moment a customer types.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Jira among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Deskpro’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
