Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.0

GPA, above 0 of the 24 other email marketing and newsletter tools we grade

Drip is an email marketing service built for ecommerce. It segments shoppers using store data, runs automated flows such as abandoned cart, back-in-stock and price-drop emails, and adds pop-ups, quizzes and embedded forms to the store. It can also be run from Claude or ChatGPT.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Drip, taken from its own pages and our grades.

You connect your store, switch on flows and design pop-ups, and the ready-made flow templates do a lot of the building for you.

The report card

Best for email flows and pop-ups for Shopify stores

Drip is email for online shops: it groups customers by what they buy and browse, then runs cart, back-in-stock and price-drop emails on its own. You can even run it by asking Claude or ChatGPT. It starts at $39 a month, though, near the top of what email tools charge, and there's no free plan.

ToolGPA report cardDripGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyD$39 a month to start, in the dearest tenth of what email tools charge and three times the middle. The price then rises with active people and emails sent, and Drip doesn't publish the steps. Unlimited users are included, at least.
Free plan and trialDNo free plan. The 14-day trial leads straight into the paid subscription, so cancel before it ends if Drip isn't for you.
FeaturesBStore-data segments that update live, ready-made welcome, cart, browse, back-in-stock, price-drop and win-back flows, pop-ups, quizzes, forms and A/B tests inside workflows. For a shop, that's the whole job.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record. You connect your store, switch on flows and design pop-ups, and the ready-made flow templates do a lot of the building for you.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, with Shopify, Judge.me, Junip, LoyaltyLion, Meta ads and Segment, an API, and Claude and ChatGPT able to run it for you. No desktop or phone app, so it stops at a B.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Drip is for

  • Great if you run a Shopify store and want cart, back-in-stock and price-drop emails without building them
  • Handy when several people work on your marketing, since every plan has unlimited users
  • A treat if you'd rather ask Claude or ChatGPT to pull numbers and launch a campaign

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you're a small shop, at $39 a month before your list has even grown
  • Skip it if you want a free plan, as there's only a 14-day trial
  • Not for you if you like knowing next year's bill, since the price steps aren't published

Good to know

Good for

  • Shopify stores that want flows and pop-ups in one app
  • Teams that want unlimited users on one account
  • Store owners who would rather run campaigns by asking Claude or ChatGPT

Worth knowing

  • There is no free plan; the 14-day trial leads to a paid subscription.
  • The price rises with active people on the list and emails sent, and the listing does not publish the steps.
  • Free migration and personalized onboarding come only with some plans.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Drip you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 23 of the 24 other email marketing and newsletter tools grade higher. It costs $468 a year.

What you could make

  • Forms: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
  • Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
  • It plugs into other products, Shopify, Claude and ChatGPT among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Drip’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
