Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 5 of the 24 other email marketing and newsletter tools we grade
Encharge is a marketing automation service aimed mainly at SaaS, subscription and app businesses. It builds visual flows that send emails based on what people do in your product, syncs customer data from billing tools such as Stripe and Chargebee, and also sends newsletters and transactional email. Plans are priced by subscriber count.
To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Encharge, taken from its own pages and our grades.
We couldn't confirm its prices, though, and HubSpot, Salesforce and event-based segments need the Premium plan.

To replace Encharge you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for behavior-based emails for SaaS companies
Encharge is built for SaaS and subscription businesses: it sends emails based on what people do in your product and on billing events from Stripe, Chargebee or Paddle. Newsletters and transactional email come from the same account. We couldn't confirm its prices, though, and HubSpot, Salesforce and event-based segments need the Premium plan.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | No price on record, as Encharge's pricing page turned automated readers away. What we do know is that Growth and Premium are priced by subscribers, and crossing a tier moves you up automatically at the next bill. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but there's a 14-day trial for up to 1,000 subscribers with no card needed. Long enough to connect Stripe and switch on an onboarding flow. |
| Features | B | Visual flows triggered by sign-ups, segments, events and billing, segments on tracked behavior, newsletters in drag-and-drop or text builders, companies and custom objects, and transactional email through an API. That's the whole job. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record and no phone app. The flows only come alive once your product is sending events and your billing tool is connected, and that setup is real work. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with Stripe, Chargebee, Paddle, HubSpot, Salesforce, Segment, Facebook Ads and Zapier, plus an API. No desktop or phone app keeps it at a B. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Encharge is for
- Great if you run a SaaS and want onboarding emails driven by what trial users actually do
- Handy when your billing lives in Stripe, Chargebee or Paddle and you want emails on those events
- Good for agencies running automation for clients on HubSpot or Salesforce
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're on Growth and use HubSpot or Salesforce, as those need Premium
- Not for you if you want push notifications, which are still on Encharge's roadmap
- Skip it if you track lots of events, since past the monthly cap new events simply stop arriving
Good to know
Good for
- SaaS teams onboarding trial users with behavior-based emails
- Subscription businesses acting on Stripe or Chargebee events
- Agencies running automation for clients who use HubSpot or Salesforce
Worth knowing
- Prices could not be confirmed: the pricing page and the main site refused automated readers when checked.
- Plans are Growth and Premium, priced by subscribers; passing a tier upgrades you automatically at the next billing date.
- Each plan caps monthly events at 50 times the subscriber tier on Growth and 100 times on Premium; past the cap, events stop arriving.
- There is no push notification channel yet; Encharge lists it on its roadmap.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Encharge you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 10 of the 24 other email marketing and newsletter tools grade higher.
What you could make
- Forms: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
- It plugs into other products, Stripe, Chargebee and Paddle among them, and has an API.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Encharge’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
