To get you started, here are 9 things to know about GetResponse, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No App Store rating on record, and the work here is building emails, pages and workflows in a web app.

The report card
Best for email plus webinars and courses in one plan
GetResponse bundles email, automation, landing pages and popups, and its Creator plan adds webinars, courses and paid newsletters. Every paid plan has unlimited sends, from $19 a month for 1,000 contacts. Starter lets you build just one custom automation, though, so most people end up eyeing the $59 plan.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | $19 a month for 1,000 contacts billed monthly, or $15.58 on a yearly plan, toward the dearer end of the pack. It's cheaper than most once your list grows, at $79 for 10,000, but Starter allows 1 custom automation and unlimited ones start at $59. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A free account for up to 500 contacts and 2,500 emails a month, with a GetResponse badge on your emails. After the first 14 days you can't schedule newsletters, send autoresponders or publish automations, so it's a test drive more than a home. |
| Features | B | Email with AI writing, automation, unlimited landing pages, forms and popups, and webinars, courses and paid newsletters on Creator. It covers the whole job. SMS and transactional email only come with the custom-priced Enterprise plan. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record, and the work here is building emails, pages and workflows in a web app. There's a lot of it, so give yourself time to find your way around. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web plus iPhone and Android apps, with Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, Magento, Zapier, Stripe, PayPal and Salesforce, and an API. No desktop app, so B is the ceiling. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who GetResponse is for
- Great if you run webinars or sell a course and want it all next to your email list
- Handy when you mail your list often, since paid plans have no send cap
- Good for charities and NGOs, with 50% off every monthly plan
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're on Starter, which allows one custom automation and three uses of the AI tools
- Skip it if you need SMS or receipt emails without talking to sales about Enterprise
- Not for you if you like changing plans yourself, as downgrades go through support
Good to know
Good for
- Small businesses that want email, landing pages and automation in one plan
- Course creators and coaches who also run webinars
- Senders who mail a list often, since paid plans have no send cap
Worth knowing
- After the first 14 days, the free account cannot schedule newsletters, send autoresponders or publish automation workflows.
- Starter allows only 1 custom automation workflow and 3 uses of the AI tools.
- SMS marketing, transactional email and a dedicated IP are only on the custom-priced Enterprise plan.
- Downgrading, or moving from annual to monthly billing, has to be requested from the support team.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace GetResponse you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 10 of the 24 other email marketing and newsletter tools grade higher. It costs $228 a year.
What you could make
- Forms and paid newsletters: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
- A chat box on your site that reaches you the moment a customer types.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Shopify, WooCommerce and WordPress among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. GetResponse’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
