Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 1 of the 17 other accounting and invoicing tools we grade
Kashoo is online accounting software for sole proprietors and small businesses, made by a small company in Vancouver. One plan covers invoicing with online payments, expenses and bills, sales tax, bank feeds, projects, inventory items and a double-entry ledger, with no charge for extra users. Its maker now also sells a newer product, TrulySmall Accounting.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Kashoo, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for one flat-priced plan with every feature in it
Kashoo is plain online accounting with a single plan: $30 a month gets you invoices, bank feeds, sales tax, projects and as many users as you like, with nothing held back for a dearer tier.
- 2
Paid plans start at $30 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $30 per business / month, billed monthly.
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial, no credit card required
- 4
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android.
- 5
Bank feeds
Connects to more than 5,000 banks and credit unions through Plaid and imports transactions automatically.
- 6
Invoices and online payments
Unlimited invoices, with customers paying straight from the invoice once a Stripe account is set up. Square sales can be brought in too.
- 7
Expenses, bills and sales tax
Track expenses and bills, attach unlimited receipts and documents, and track sales tax on a double-entry ledger.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 1 of 17
That is against the other accounting and invoicing tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Kashoo you would be making live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for one flat-priced plan with every feature in it
Kashoo is plain online accounting with a single plan: $30 a month gets you invoices, bank feeds, sales tax, projects and as many users as you like, with nothing held back for a dearer tier. But payroll isn't built in, and its maker now points people to its newer app, TrulySmall Accounting, while the help centre calls this one Kashoo Classic.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | $30 a month for the business, or $324 a year, just under the dearer quarter of accounting tools at $31.10. Everything is on that one plan, users included, so there's no upsell. There's no cheaper plan for a quiet month either, and each business pays separately. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A 14-day free trial with no card needed. After that a card is needed to carry on, and there's no free plan, though an unpaid account is kept for 90 days. |
| Features | C | Invoices with online payments, expenses and bills, sales tax, bank feeds from 5,000+ banks, projects, inventory items, several currencies and a double-entry ledger. The gap is on the listing: payroll isn't built in and comes through PaymentEvolution. |
| Ease of use | C | No store rating on record. Bank feeds bring the transactions in for you, but it's still a double-entry ledger, with banks to connect and categories to learn before it runs itself. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with bank feeds through Plaid, payments through Stripe and Square, and payroll through PaymentEvolution. There's no desktop app, which keeps it off an A. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Kashoo is for
- Great if you want every feature on one plan, with no upgrade to chase later
- Handy when your accountant, bookkeeper and staff all need a login, as extra users are free
- Good for owners who like getting help from the maker by phone, chat or email
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want payroll inside your books, as it comes through PaymentEvolution instead
- Pricey if you only send a few invoices a month, since there's no plan below $30
- Tight if you run several businesses, because each one needs its own subscription
Good to know
Good for
- Sole proprietors who want one flat price with every feature included
- Small businesses that share their books with an accountant and staff
- Owners who want phone, chat and email help from the maker itself
Worth knowing
- Each business needs its own subscription; for more than 5 businesses Kashoo quotes a package by phone, email or chat.
- Payroll is not built in: Kashoo connects to PaymentEvolution for it.
- The maker now promotes TrulySmall Accounting, $20 a month, as its newer automated product; Kashoo's help center calls this one Kashoo Classic.
- When the trial ends a card is needed to continue; an unpaid account is kept for another 90 days.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
1/17
Other accounting and invoicing tools it is graded above
Kashoo's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 1 of the 17 other accounting and invoicing tools we grade, and level with 2.
It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 2 of 17) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 0).
Its paid plans start at $30 a month, against a middle price of $19 for the category: 12 of the 16 others that charge start lower.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.3 out of 4. 7 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Kashoo you would be making live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 17 other accounting and invoicing tools grade higher. It costs $360 a year.
What you could make
- Invoicing, expense tracking and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
What this rests on. Kashoo’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
