Mailjet

Email API, SMTP relay and campaign editor on one plan priced by volume

Free plan · from $8.10/moEmail SendingChecked Oct 18, 2026

Our verdict

Third of our top three email sending services

For: Shops sending order emails and newsletters

Mailjet sends receipts and password resets through an API or SMTP relay and newsletters through a drag-and-drop editor, from one account and one plan, with webhooks, a parse API for inbound email, EU data centers and connections to WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify. The free plan sends 6,000 emails a month with no card, and Starter is $8.10 a month billed yearly ($9 monthly) for 8,000 with no daily limit. It is third because app email alone costs more: 50,000 emails is $40 a month on Essential, billed monthly, against $20 on Resend. The free plan stops at 200 emails a day, and online support lasts only the first month.

Best for app email and newsletters on one plan

Mailjet puts app email and marketing campaigns on the same plan: an API and SMTP relay for receipts and resets, and a drag-and-drop editor for newsletters, with data kept in the EU. 50,000 emails is $40 a month on Essential, 10% less paid yearly, which is dearer than sending-only rivals. It makes sense if you'll use the campaign side too.

Who Mailjet is for

  • Great if you want receipts and newsletters sent from one account on one plan
  • Handy when your data has to stay in the EU
  • Good for side projects that fit in 200 emails a day, which is free

Who Mailjet is not for

  • Pricey if you only send app email, as you pay for campaign tools you won't touch
  • Tight if you pass 50,000 emails a month, where Essential stops and Premium takes over
  • Not for you if you need a dedicated IP below 100,000 emails a month

Why Mailjet gets a 2.4

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyGraded on 50,000 emails a month: Essential is $40 at that volume, 10% less paid yearly, toward the dear end of this category. But the same plan covers campaigns too, with unlimited contacts and segments, and 50,000 is as far as Essential goes.
  • CFree plan and trialFree for good, no card: 6,000 emails a month with the API, SMTP and webhooks, the most of any free plan here. But it's capped at 200 a day, and online support only lasts the first month.
  • BFeaturesAPI and SMTP sending, a parse API for inbound email, webhooks, templates with variables, a campaign editor with MJML, validation and inbox previews, and automations on Premium. It covers the sending job and then some.
  • CEase of useJudged on how fast a developer sends a first email: API keys and SMTP details come with the free plan, once your domain is set up. No rating on record. The campaign side adds an editor and lists to learn, if you use it.
  • BPlatforms and integrationsWeb, with an API and SMTP relay, plus WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, HubSpot, Google Cloud and Sinch Engage. No desktop or phone app, so B is the top.

Keep Mailjet, or make your own?

Keep it

To replace Mailjet you would be making mail servers with a good name among inbox providers. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 6 of the 11 other email sending services grade higher. It costs $97.20 a year.

What you could not

  • Mail servers with a good name among inbox providers.
  • Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
  • Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
  • Checking that an address exists without writing to it.
  • It plugs into other products, WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify among them, and has an API.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Mailjet’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

  • The free plan caps sending at 200 emails a day and offers online support only in the first month.

  • A dedicated IP is available on Premium only from the 100,000-email plan, on request.
