Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 7 of the 12 other popup and widget tools we grade

Poptin builds popups, floating bars, slide-ins, full-screen overlays, gamified popups and embedded forms for an existing website, shown by exit intent and more than 15 targeting rules. It has grown into an email tool as well, with contacts, segments, campaigns and automated sequences. Popup-only plans are priced by monthly visitors and domains, and plans that include email by the number of contacts.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Poptin, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for popups with email campaigns built in

It counts unique visitors, not pageviews, which is kinder to sites where people click around.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $19 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $19 per month for up to 500 email contacts and 5,000 visitors (Growth).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

1,000 visitors a month on 1 domain with unlimited popups and Poptin branding, plus 250 email contacts and 500 email sends.

  4. 4

    Web.

  5. 5

    Popup and form types

Lightboxes, floating bars, full-screen overlays, slide-ins, gamified popups, social widgets, mobile popups and embedded contact or sign-up forms.

  6. 6

    Triggers and targeting

More than 15 targeting rules by behavior, location, device and page, display frequency controls, and exit-intent triggers.

  7. 7

    A/B testing and teasers

Compare timing, templates and triggers between popup versions, and show a small teaser icon that opens the full popup on a click.

  8. 8

    A 2.4 GPA, above 7 of 12

That is against the other popup and widget tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Poptin you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for popups with email campaigns built in

Poptin does popups, bars, slide-ins and gamified offers with exit intent and 15+ targeting rules, and it's grown an email tool on the side. It counts unique visitors, not pageviews, which is kinder to sites where people click around. The free plan stops at 1,000 visitors a month, though, and a 20,000-visitor site lands on Pro at $47.

ToolGPA report cardPoptinGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPoptin counts unique visitors, so 20,000 a month is past Basic's 10,000 and onto Pro: $47 a month billed yearly ($59 monthly) for 50,000 visitors on 4 domains. That's on the dear side of the middle for popup tools here.
Free plan and trialCFree forever with unlimited popups, but only for 1,000 visitors a month on one domain, with Poptin branding. A tiny blog might live on it. Most sites will hit the cap quickly.
FeaturesBBars, slide-ins, full-screen and gamified popups, embedded forms, exit intent, 15+ targeting rules, A/B tests, teasers and coupons, plus email campaigns and automated sequences on top. It covers the whole job.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. Templates get you started, but between 15+ targeting rules, triggers, A/B tests and an email builder, there's a fair bit to set up.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, with 70+ integrations including Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, Salesforce and ActiveCampaign, plus Zapier, Make, WordPress and its own API. No desktop or phone app, so B is the top.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Poptin is for

  • Great if you want popups and email campaigns from one account
  • Handy when you run a few sites, as Pro covers 4 domains
  • Good for agencies, with sub-accounts and unlimited domains on Agency

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're on the free plan, which stops at 1,000 visitors a month
  • Pricey if you mostly want email, as Growth reaches $119 a month at 10,000 contacts
  • Not for you if you want a cheap popup on a busy site, as Basic stops at 10,000 visitors

Good to know

Good for

  • Small sites that need a free popup tool with a monthly visitor allowance
  • Businesses that want popups and their email list in one place

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Poptin you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $228 a year.

What you could make

  • Popups and forms: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
  • Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
  • Splitting visitors between versions and telling you which won.
  • It plugs into other products, Mailchimp, Klaviyo and HubSpot among them.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Poptin’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
