Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 16 of the 30 other website and landing page builders we grade
Tilda builds websites, landing pages, online stores and blogs from a library of pre-designed blocks, with Zero Block as a free-form editor for designing blocks of your own. Hosting, built-in analytics, a lead CRM, member areas and an email campaign editor come with the paid plans. Plans are priced by the number of websites on an account.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Tilda, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Stacking blocks is quick, but Zero Block has layers, breakpoints and animation steps, so the clever stuff takes some learning.
- 1
Best for designed pages from blocks, with room to go custom
You do need to pay yearly to take the 'Made on Tilda' label off.
- 2
Paid plans start at $10 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $10 per month, billed annually ($15 billed monthly).
- 3
There is a free plan
1 website of up to 50 pages on a free tilda.ws subdomain, 100 blocks, Zero Block and the AI tools. No custom domain and no data collection forms.
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Block library
Pages are assembled from more than 600 pre-designed blocks for covers, text, galleries, forms, pricing tables and footers. The free plan opens 100 of them.
- 6
Zero Block editor
A free-form design editor for making blocks from scratch, with breakpoints from 320 to 1920 pixels, auto layout, layers, a vector tool and step-by-step animation.
- 7
AI page and text generation
The built-in AI generates a page from a short description, writes or rewrites copy for a block or a whole page, and picks images. It is included on the free plan.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 16 of 30
That is against the other website and landing page builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Tilda you would be making a builder that other people can use without writing code. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for designed pages from blocks, with room to go custom
Tilda builds sites from more than 600 ready-made blocks, and when those aren't enough, Zero Block lets you draw your own, animation and all. Personal is $10 a month on yearly billing for one site, with a store, forms, a CRM and member areas included. You do need to pay yearly to take the 'Made on Tilda' label off.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Personal is $10 a month for one site on yearly billing ($15 monthly), just over this category's cheapest quarter ($9). For that you get 1,000 pages, a store of up to 5,000 products, forms, a CRM and member areas, which is a lot. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A free site of up to 50 pages with Zero Block and the AI tools, which is decent. But it's on a Tilda subdomain, only 100 blocks are open, and forms can't collect data. |
| Features | B | Over 600 blocks, Zero Block for free-form design and animation, AI page and text generation, a store, forms with a built-in CRM, member areas, courses and email campaigns. It covers the whole job. |
| Ease of use | C | No app store rating on record. Stacking blocks is quick, but Zero Block has layers, breakpoints and animation steps, so the clever stuff takes some learning. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with Stripe, PayPal, Mailchimp, SendGrid, Google Sheets and Google Analytics, plus an API on Business. No phone or desktop app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Tilda is for
- Great if you're a designer who wants pixel-level layouts and animation without code
- Handy when one site needs a landing page, a store and a course all together
- Good for freelancers running up to five client sites on one account
Who it is not for
- Tight if you pay monthly, since the 'Made on Tilda' label only comes off on yearly plans
- Skip it if you might let it lapse, as the site goes offline and its data is deleted after six months
- Pricey if you need code export or the API, which are Business-only at $20 a month
Good to know
Good for
- Designers who want block-based pages with room for custom layouts and animation
- Small businesses building a landing page, store or course site in one place
- Freelancers running up to five client sites from one account
Worth knowing
- The free plan cannot connect a custom domain, collect form submissions, embed HTML or upload custom fonts.
- Personal covers a single website; more than one site needs Business, and over five needs a larger Business plan priced in the account.
- The "Made on Tilda" label can be removed only on Personal or Business paid annually.
- Code export and the API are limited to Business. If a subscription lapses, the site is unpublished and its data is deleted after six months.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Tilda you would be making a builder that other people can use without writing code. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $120 a year.
What you could make
- Templates and forms: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A builder that other people can use without writing code.
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- It plugs into other products, Stripe, PayPal and 2Checkout among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Tilda’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
