Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.0
GPA, above 0 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade
Trainual is a platform for documenting processes, policies and SOPs and turning them into role-based training with tests, e-signatures and completion tracking. An AI assistant answers employee questions from the documented content and helps draft new material. Alongside this Training suite, Trainual offers an Operations suite for meetings, goals and KPIs and a Performance suite for reviews; none of them has a published price.
To get you started, here are 7 things to know about Trainual, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No app rating on record, and you can't sign up and poke around: it starts with a demo call and a paid implementation.
- 1
Best for turning SOPs into training with tests
Training paths, SSO and the API each sit on a higher plan, so you can't judge the cost without a sales call.
- 2
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, iOS and Android, with a browser extension too.
- 3
Process docs and SOPs
Processes, policies and SOPs are written in a built-in editor with AI drafting or uploaded from existing documents, and can include flowcharts, video, screen recordings and embeds.
- 4
Role-based training
Content is assigned by role, department or location and given due dates. Individual training paths that sequence content for each person start on the Pro plan.
- 5
Tests, e-signatures and tracking
AI-generated tests and e-signatures confirm that training was understood, and reports show completions and overdue assignments. Pro includes 300 e-signatures a year.
- 6
A 2.0 GPA, above 0 of 51
That is against the other docs and wiki tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 7
Keep it
To replace Trainual you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for turning SOPs into training with tests
Trainual turns your processes and policies into training: assign it by role, test people on it, collect e-signatures and see who's finished, on phones too. But there are no prices on the site and no trial you can start yourself, and there's a one-time $1,000 implementation fee. Training paths, SSO and the API each sit on a higher plan, so you can't judge the cost without a sales call.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | No plan has a published price: you're quoted on a demo call by team size, and that's where any unpriced tool lands. What is on record is a one-time implementation fee of $1,000. The useful extras climb the ladder too, with training paths and the org chart on Pro, SSO on Premium and the API on Enterprise. |
| Free plan and trial | F | Nothing is free. No free plan, no self-serve trial, and the only way to see Trainual working is to book a demo and then pay the implementation fee. |
| Features | B | It covers the whole training job: an editor with AI drafting, 500-plus templates, built-in screen recording, content assigned by role, department or location with due dates, AI-generated tests and e-signatures to prove it was read, completion reports, and AI search over your own docs. |
| Ease of use | C | No app rating on record, and you can't sign up and poke around: it starts with a demo call and a paid implementation. Once you're in, 500-plus templates and AI drafting mean you're not facing a blank page. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, so staff out in the field can train on their phones, with connections to Slack, Google Drive, Gusto, BambooHR, ADP Run and Zapier. No desktop app, and API access is Enterprise only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Trainual is for
- Fits if you onboard new hires often and need proof they finished the training
- Works for teams spread over several locations who train on their phones
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to see a price or try it before talking to sales, as there's no self-serve trial
- Pricey if you're a tiny team, with a one-time $1,000 implementation fee before any plan cost
- Not for you if you only need a wiki, as this is built around assigned training and tests
- Watch out: training paths, video hosting and the org chart need Pro, and branding, a custom domain and SSO need Premium
- Tight if you need the API or custom integrations, which are Enterprise only, and there's no desktop app
Good to know
Good for
- Companies of roughly 25 to 1,000 employees documenting how work gets done
- Onboarding new hires with role-based training and tests
- Field and multi-location teams that train on phones
Worth knowing
- Trainual lists no prices: plans are quoted on a demo call according to team size and the features needed.
- A one-time implementation fee of $1,000 applies, and there is no self-serve free trial; evaluation starts with a demo.
- Individual training paths, video hosting and the org chart need Pro; custom branding, a custom domain and single sign-on need Premium.
- API access and custom integration support are limited to the Enterprise plan.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Trainual you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 48 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools grade higher.
What you could make
- Documents and templates: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A search engine with an AI model behind it.
- Recording the screen with its sound, and somewhere to keep the video.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Several people working in it at the same moment.
- It plugs into other products, Google Drive, Slack and Gusto among them.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Trainual’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
