Best for scoring your own drafts against ranking pages

Wordmetrics grades a draft you wrote yourself against the terms ranking pages use, with a letter score as you type, from $30 a month for 15 posts. It doesn't write anything for you, unused credits don't roll over, and the site still calls it a private beta.

Who Wordmetrics is for

  • Fits if you write every word yourself and want term guidance while you draft
  • Works for freelancers updating older posts against the pages that now outrank them

Who Wordmetrics is not for

  • Skip it if you want articles written for you, as it only scores text you write or paste
  • Watch out: the week's trial rolls into $30 a month unless you cancel it in time
  • Tight if you have a slow month, since unused post credits reset and don't roll over
  • Not for you if you work from a phone or tablet, as there's no mobile support
  • Watch out: the site still calls it a private beta and only lists monthly billing

Why Wordmetrics gets a 2.2

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyLite is $30 a month for 15 optimized posts, between this category's cheapest quarter ($20) and its middle ($45), so it's ordinary. Pro is $50 for 30. Billing is monthly only, and unused post credits don't roll over.
  • CFree plan and trialNo free plan. Lite and Pro start with a week free, and nothing on record says a card is needed, but it rolls into the monthly price unless you cancel within the week. Pro Plus at $75 has no trial at all.
  • CFeaturesA semantic index of the terms ranking pages use, a live letter grade as you type, readability checks and re-checking old posts. It does draft scoring fully, but that's a smaller job: it writes nothing, and no keyword research or publishing is on record.
  • BEase of useNo rating on record, but there's nothing to connect: type a target phrase, write or paste a draft, and it grades the text as you go.
  • CPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, with no integrations or API on record. There's no mobile support either: its own help center says it's meant for laptops and desktops.

Keep it

Nothing Wordmetrics does is plain enough to make in a weekend. The 2 things listed below take a company.

It costs $360 a year.

What you could not

  • A score built from what the top results for each keyword cover.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Wordmetrics’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

What is Wordmetrics?

Wordmetrics is a web-based writing editor for SEO content. For a chosen search phrase it reads the pages that rank, builds a semantic index of related terms, highlights them as you write and grades the draft, alongside a readability check. It does not generate text, and plans are sold by the number of optimized posts a month.

Worth knowing

  • It does not write content; it only scores and guides text you write or paste.
  • Monthly post credits reset each billing period and do not roll over.
  • There is no mobile support; the help center says it is meant for laptops and desktops.
  • The site still describes the product as being in private beta, and lists monthly billing only.
