Who each one suits

Google Slides

  • Teams that build and review the same deck together in a browser
  • Organizations that already pay for Google Workspace
  • Presenters who share their slides in Google Meet calls

WPS Presentation

  • People who need to open and edit PowerPoint files without Microsoft 365
  • Linux users: the suite has Deb and Rpm packages as well as Windows and Mac versions
  • Anyone who wants a slide editor bundled with documents, spreadsheets and PDF tools

Worth knowing

Google Slides

  • There is no standalone paid Slides plan; the business version comes only as part of Google Workspace, with Gmail, Drive and Meet.
  • Gemini in Slides is not in Business Starter; it starts at Business Standard, $14 per user / month on a 1-year commitment.
  • Slides recording and speaker spotlight are not available with a free personal account; Google limits them to some Workspace plans.
  • Google's help lists Slides for computer browsers, Android, iPhone and iPad; no Windows or Mac desktop app is listed.

WPS Presentation

  • WPS Presentation is not sold separately: it comes with WPS Office, and the Pro+ plans cover the whole suite.
  • The free WPS Standard edition shows advertising, limits template downloads and includes 1 GB of cloud space.
  • AI tools on Pro+ have a daily usage limit; once it is reached they pause until the next day.
  • The pricing page states that its listed prices apply to PC and Android.

Key features

Google Slides

Co-editing and revision history
Several people can work on the same slide at the same time. Sharing settings control who can view, comment or edit, and revision history restores earlier versions.
Gemini in Slides
Generates new slides and images from a prompt, summarizes a presentation, rewrites text and can draw on files in Drive. It requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan.
Slides recording
Records a presenter talking through a deck and saves the video to Drive for sharing. Each recording is limited to 30 minutes and can only be made in Chrome or Edge.
Presenting in Google Meet
Slides and Meet controls appear in one place during a call, and speaker spotlight places the presenter's video inside the slide. Both are limited to some Workspace Business and Enterprise plans.
PowerPoint and Canva files
PowerPoint presentations can be edited directly without making a copy, or converted to Slides format. Canva presentations can also be imported.
Offline editing
Presentations can be opened, created and edited without a connection. On a computer this requires Chrome or Microsoft Edge with the Google Docs Offline extension.

WPS Presentation

PowerPoint compatibility
Opens and saves .pptx, .ppt and .ppsx files. The product page lists more than 80 animations, morph transitions, charts and presenter tools.
WPS AI slide generation
WPS AI builds an outline and slides from a topic, an uploaded document or a pasted outline, and can add single slides to an existing deck. Pro+ AI tools have a daily usage limit.
AI editing and speaker notes
The assistant polishes, expands or shortens slide text, redesigns a single slide, matches images to keywords, translates slide content and drafts speaker notes for each slide.
Shared editing
Teammates co-edit the same presentation in real time across desktop and web, comment and mention each other, set view, comment or edit permissions and review version history.
Templates and resources
A library of presentation templates, icons, images and charts covers business reports, pitch decks, lessons and project updates. The free edition limits template downloads.
Part of an office suite
Presentation sits beside Writer, Spreadsheet and PDF tools in one application, including conversion of PDF files into editable slides and export of decks to PDF.
