| Value for money | BPremium is $10.99 a month or $99.99 a year, which works out at about $8.33 a month. That's above the $4.99 a typical journal app starts at, but you're paying for AI replies and voice transcription, and it's in line with the other AI journals we list. | BPremium is $5.75 a month billed annually, so $69 a year, or $8 month to month. That's about typical for a journaling app, and it brings unlimited AI search and insights, full sync, rich text and PDF export. A lifetime purchase is on the US App Store at $249.99, which is steep. |
| Free plan and trial | BFree gets you 3 entries a week (10 in your first seven days), one mentor reply per entry and 10 voice recordings a week. Import, export and the app lock are included. But three entries a week isn't a daily journal. | BFree Forever covers unlimited entries, prompts, reminders, search, monthly and annual reviews, and import and export. But it's one photo per entry with limited syncing, and nothing says how limited. Premium has a 7-day free trial. |
| Features | AReplies from more than 1,000 mentors, follow-up chat, voice entries turned into text, charts of your feelings over time and a Sunday letter with a generated artwork. It imports from Day One, Journey and Reflectly, and exports to CSV, JSON or Markdown. | AAn AI coach that asks a follow-up question from what you just wrote, voice entries, spoken Voice Calls saved as transcripts, and Ask Your Journal for questions about your own history. Add more than 100 guided programs, weekly to annual reviews and an Insights page. One toggle turns all the AI off. |
| Ease of use | BNo App Store rating on record, so B is as high as we go. You write an entry and a reply turns up, so there's not much to learn. Some parts need a run-up: emotional trends appear after 3 entries, and questions about your own history after 10. | A4.7 from about 1,100 App Store ratings. Guided programs lead you one prompt at a time, and the coach's questions keep an entry moving. If typing is the barrier, you can just talk. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWeb, iPhone and Android, plus a read-only connector that lets Claude or ChatGPT read your journal. There's no desktop app, so on a computer it's the browser, and the App Store listing is designed for iPhone. | AiPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and the web, and Premium includes a beta MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT. No Windows or Linux app is listed, so there it's the browser. Voice Call is on iPhone, iPad and Android only. |

Who each one suits
Life Note
- People who want a written response to each entry instead of a blank page
- Readers of philosophy and psychology who want replies styled on a chosen thinker
- Journal keepers moving from Day One, Journey or Reflectly, whose exports import free
Reflection
- People who want follow-up questions from an AI coach as they write
- Journaling by voice, including spoken back-and-forth conversations
- Following guided programs on gratitude, anxiety or relationships
Worth knowing
Life Note
- Free accounts are limited to 3 journal entries a week and 1 mentor response per entry.
- The security guide says Life Note is not end-to-end encrypted in the strict sense, because mentors must read entries to reply, although the homepage uses that term.
- No desktop app is listed: on a computer it runs in the browser, and the App Store listing is designed for iPhone.
- The connector for Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients is read-only, so an assistant cannot add entries.
Reflection
- The free plan allows one photo per entry and limited syncing; multiple photos, rich text, PDF export and unlimited cross-device sync need Premium.
- Entries are encrypted at rest and in transit, not end-to-end, and the AI features are powered by Google Gemini.
- Voice Call is listed for iPhone, iPad and Android only, not for the Mac or web apps.
- No Windows or Linux app is listed; on those systems the journal is used in a browser.
Key features
Life Note
- Replies from AI mentors
- Each entry is answered by an AI mentor drawn from more than 1,000 historical figures. Free accounts get one response per entry and subscribers up to three, from different mentors.
- Deep Chat
- A mentor's reply can be continued as a conversation with follow-up questions, and past conversations can be archived. Free accounts have limited usage.
- Weekly Letter and Inner Portrait
- Write three entries in a week and a mentor sends a letter on Sunday along with a generated artwork of the week. Both are available without a subscription.
- Voice journaling
- Spoken entries are recorded and transcribed into the journal. Free accounts get 10 recordings a week and subscribers 200 a month.
- Inner Weather and Inner Wisdom
- Inner Weather shows top feelings and emotional trends after 3 entries. Inner Wisdom answers questions from your own journal history once you have 10 entries.
- Import, export and AI connections
- Takes export files from Day One, Journey, Reflectly, ChatGPT and Claude, and exports to CSV, JSON, Markdown or ZIP. A read-only MCP connector lets Claude or ChatGPT read the journal.
Reflection
- AI Coach
- While you journal, the coach asks a follow-up question based on the entry you just wrote. All AI features can be turned off with a single toggle while the rest of the app keeps working.
- Voice Call and voice journaling
- Speak an entry and have it transcribed, or start a Voice Call for a spoken back-and-forth that is saved to the journal as a transcript. Voice Call runs on iPhone, iPad and Android.
- Ask Your Journal
- Ask about patterns, people or how you felt at a given time, and the app searches your history and answers in plain language. Unlimited AI search and insights are part of Premium.
- Guided Journeys and templates
- More than 100 guided programs from wellness and personal growth experts lead you one prompt at a time, and templates give structure for gratitude, goals and reviews.
- Reviews and insights
- Weekly, monthly and annual reviews recap what you wrote, and an Insights page charts sentiment, emotions and life domains across a chosen time range.
- Privacy, export and MCP
- Entries are encrypted at rest and in transit and are not used to train AI models. You can export to PDF, JSON or CSV, and Premium includes a beta MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT.
