Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 11 of the 14 other affiliate and referral tools we grade

FirstPromoter runs affiliate, referral and influencer programs for SaaS and subscription businesses, reading sales from billing systems such as Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Recurly and Braintree so recurring commissions follow each customer. It tracks links, coupon codes and sub-IDs, gives promoters a branded portal, and pays out through PayPal, Wise, Stripe, crypto or bank transfer. Plans are priced by the revenue affiliates bring in each month.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about FirstPromoter, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card

Best for SaaS affiliate programs on any billing system

FirstPromoter runs affiliate, referral and influencer programs for SaaS companies, reading sales from Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Recurly or Braintree. It packs a lot in for the price: sub-affiliates, coupon codes, tax forms and payouts in 190 currencies. The catch is Starter's cap. It stops at $5,000 a month of affiliate revenue, and passing it moves you up a plan.

ToolGPA report cardFirstPromoterGraded Oct 18, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBGraded on $5,000 a month of affiliate sales, which is exactly Starter's cap: $490 a year on yearly billing ($49 monthly), with no cut of sales. That's the cheap end of this category. But one good month moves you to Business, which is $990 a year.
Free plan and trialCNo free plan, but a 14-day free trial on every plan, and no credit card needed.
FeaturesBFive billing systems, coupons synced to Stripe, sub-IDs, recurring, per-plan and three-tier commissions, a translated portal that collects W-9 and W-8BEN forms, emails to affiliates and fraud checks. The whole job. Its AI assistant and MCP server are still in beta.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. Billing integrations and an import of past Stripe data help, but there are campaigns, commission rules and a portal to set up before promoters join.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, with Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, HighLevel, Kajabi and Zapier, plus APIs. No desktop or phone app, which an A needs.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who FirstPromoter is for

  • Great if you bill through Chargebee, Recurly or Braintree rather than just Stripe
  • Handy when you want sub-affiliates, with commissions up to three tiers deep
  • Good for programs mixing affiliates, influencers and customer referrals

Who it is not for

  • Tight if your affiliates bring in a bit over $5,000 a month, as Starter stops there
  • Skip it if you run an online store rather than a subscription business
  • Not for you if you need white-labeling or SSO without an Enterprise deal

Good to know

Good for

  • SaaS companies billing through Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Recurly or Braintree
  • Programs mixing affiliates, influencers and customer referrals
  • Teams that want multi-tier commissions or coupon-code tracking

Worth knowing

  • Plans follow affiliate-driven revenue: Starter stops at $5,000 a month, and passing a limit moves the account to the next tier.
  • Starter allows up to 1,000 affiliates and three campaigns; a custom dashboard domain and custom email domain need Business.
  • White-labeling, SSO, activity logs and Managed Auto Payouts are Enterprise only; managed payouts need approval and are for SaaS companies.
  • The AI assistant and MCP server for Claude or ChatGPT are marked beta.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace FirstPromoter you would be making payouts to partners in many countries, with their tax forms. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.6 is higher than 11 of the 14 other affiliate and referral tools we grade. It costs $588 a year.

What you could not

  • Payouts to partners in many countries, with their tax forms.
  • Every click and sale traced back to the right partner.
  • It plugs into other products, Stripe, Paddle and Chargebee among them, and has an API.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. FirstPromoter’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
