Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 13 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools we grade
Kipwise is a team wiki with a real-time collaborative editor, templates and version history. Teams search it from Slack and from Chrome and Safari extensions, and keep pages current with scheduled content reviews, mandatory reads and an internal Q&A flow. Knowledge base plans are priced per user with a 20-user minimum, and a separate AI agent that works in Slack threads is sold per user.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Kipwise, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Signing in with Slack and searching by slash command does lower the bar.
- 1
Best for teams of 20 or more who live in Slack
The API is Enterprise only and there are no mobile apps, so small teams should look elsewhere.
- 2
Paid plans start at $6.30 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $6.30 per user / month, billed yearly ($7 billed monthly), 20-user minimum.
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial of the knowledge base, no credit card required
- 4
It runs on Web
Web, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Real-time collaborative editor
Teammates edit the same page at once and see each other's changes. Pages take embeds from Google Drive, Confluence, Figma, Trello, Airtable and video services.
- 6
Slack search and capture
Slash commands and Slack actions search, share and save knowledge without leaving Slack, and people can sign in with their Slack account.
- 7
Chrome and Safari extensions
The extensions search the wiki from any web app, by typing a query or highlighting text on a page, and also return results from connected Google Drive and Confluence.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 13 of 51
That is against the other docs and wiki tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Kipwise you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for teams of 20 or more who live in Slack
Kipwise is a team wiki you mostly reach from Slack: search it, share from it and save to it without leaving the chat, with scheduled reviews and must-reads. There's no free plan, both paid tiers bill for at least 20 users, SSO and Ask AI need Branded at $12.60 a user, and the Slack agent is another $10 a user. The API is Enterprise only and there are no mobile apps, so small teams should look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Premium is $6.30 a user a month billed yearly, the low end per seat, but both tiers bill for at least 20 users, so the real floor is $126 a month. SSO and Ask AI need Branded at $12.60, and the Slack agent is another $10 a user on top. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan. The knowledge base has a 14-day trial with no card asked for, which is the ordinary arrangement. After that it's a paid tier with a 20-user minimum. |
| Features | B | It covers the whole team-wiki job: a real-time editor with templates and version history, search from Slack and from Chrome and Safari, scheduled content reviews, mandatory reads, and a Q&A flow that turns an unanswered search into a question for a teammate. |
| Ease of use | C | No app rating on record, and there's a wiki to fill: pages to write, reviewers and review intervals to assign, Slack and the extensions to install across 20-odd people. Signing in with Slack and searching by slash command does lower the bar. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, Chrome and Safari extensions and Slack, with integrations for Google Drive, Confluence, Zendesk, Intercom and Okta. The site lists no mobile or desktop apps, and API integration is Enterprise only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Kipwise is for
- Fits if your team is 20 or more and does most of its daily work in Slack
- Works for companies that want pages reviewed on a schedule and required reading tracked
Who it is not for

- Skip it if you need a free plan, as there's only a 14-day trial
- Not for you if you want an API without an Enterprise deal, or a mobile app at all
- Pricey if you want SSO, Ask AI or a custom domain, which need Branded at $12.60 a user billed yearly
- Watch out: the Slack agent is $10 a user a month on top, 3-user minimum, and its AI credit doesn't roll over

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Kipwise you would be making a search engine with an AI model behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 27 of the 51 other docs and wiki tools grade higher. It costs $75.60 a year.
What you could make
- Wiki, templates and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A search engine with an AI model behind it.
- An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
- Several people working in it at the same moment.
- It plugs into other products, Slack, Google Drive and Confluence among them.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Kipwise’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
