Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 48 of the 123 other to-do list apps we grade

LeaderTask is a task manager for individuals and teams that arranges work as a tree of projects, tasks and subtasks, with Kanban boards and a calendar alongside. It has apps for Windows, Android and iOS plus a web app, and keeps working offline. The free plan runs on one device with capped tasks, projects and boards; Premium adds sync and unlimited items for one person, and Business adds assignments and shared projects for teams of two or more.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about LeaderTask, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Expect an evening of poking about before it feels like yours.

The report card

Best for planning with a task tree, boards and a calendar

LeaderTask stacks work as a tree of projects, tasks and sub-tasks, with Kanban boards and a calendar beside it, on Windows, web, Android and iPhone. The free plan is one device and 100 tasks, with no sync, checklists or repeating tasks until Premium at $49.99 a year, which the US App Store sells for $39.99 instead. There's no Mac or Linux app, and Business needs at least two seats.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPremium is $49.99 a year, about $4.17 a month, which lands between this category's middle price of $3.99 and its dearer quarter at $5.00. Business is $68.99 a year each with a two-person minimum. The US App Store says $39.99 for the same 12 months, which is odd.
Free plan and trialCFree forever, but on one device and capped at 100 tasks, 10 projects and 3 boards, with no sync, attachments, checklists or repeating tasks. Those are caps you meet in week one. The 3-day trial of everything at least needs no card.
FeaturesBIt covers the category's job: a task tree with sub-projects, Kanban boards, a calendar from one day out to ten years, reminders, recurrence, checklists, attachments, and tasks added by email, Telegram or voice. Business adds assignments and roles.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and there's a lot in the window at once: a nested tree, boards, a calendar and filters by date, status, assignee, project and priority. Expect an evening of poking about before it feels like yours.
Platforms and integrationsAWeb, a Windows app that keeps working offline, iPhone and Android, plus links to Trello, Notion, Telegram and Google Calendar. Mac and Linux users get the web app, as the downloads page lists no native build.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who LeaderTask is for

  • Fits if you plan in nested projects and want a calendar and boards alongside

  • Skip it if you want a native Mac or Linux app, as the downloads page lists none
  • Not for you if repeating tasks, checklists or attachments should be free, since those start at Premium
  • Watch out: the website says $49.99 a year for Premium, while the US App Store sells 12 months for $39.99
  • Pricey if you're a team, as Business is $68.99 a year per user with a two-person minimum

Keep it, or make your own?

Keep it

The plain part of LeaderTask you could make: tasks, kanban boards and calendar. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It costs $49.99 a year.

What you could make

  • Tasks, kanban boards and calendar: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Apps for Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. LeaderTask’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
