The report card
Best for Etsy keywords scored for volume and competition
Marmalead is a web keyword tool for Etsy sellers that scores keywords for volume, engagement and competition, shows seasonality with a three-month forecast, and grades your listings. It works only for Etsy. There's no free plan and no trial, its refund terms contradict its own AI page, and eRank does Etsy research from $5.50 a month.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | One plan with every feature: $19 a month, $190 a year ($15.83 a month), or $300 once for life. That lifetime price is under two years of this category's $17 middle. Mind you, eRank starts at $5.50 for Etsy work. |
| Free plan and trial | F | Nothing is free: no free plan, and no trial on the pricing page. The terms say the current period isn't refunded, though the Marma AI page mentions a 14-day money-back guarantee. |
| Features | C | Keyword suggestions with volume, engagement and competition bars, seasonality with a three-month forecast, listing grades, market pricing and an AI assistant. It does Etsy research fully, but that's a smaller job, and it works only for Etsy. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. Keywords are scored as bars, but listing grades and Marma AI's answers about your shop need your Etsy shop connected first. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Web only, with no desktop or phone app, and its one connection is Etsy, through Etsy's API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Marmalead is for
- Fits if you sell on Etsy and pick tags and titles by volume and competition
- Works for a seller who would rather pay $300 once than keep a subscription
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you want to try before you pay, as there's no free plan or trial
- Skip it if you sell anywhere other than Etsy, as that's all it works with
- Pricey if you're watching every dollar, as eRank starts at $5.50 a month for Etsy research
- Watch out: the terms say the current period isn't refunded, but the Marma AI page offers 14 days' money back
- Watch out: there's one plan, so you can't pay less for fewer features, and listing grades need your shop connected
Good to know
Good for
- Etsy sellers picking tags and titles from real shopper searches
- Sellers planning listings around seasonal demand
- Owners of several Etsy shops, which can all be connected
Worth knowing
- It works only for Etsy, through Etsy's API, and is not endorsed by Etsy.
- There is no free plan, and the pricing page offers no free trial.
- The terms say payments for the current billing period are not refunded, though the Marma AI page advertises a 14-day money-back guarantee.
- There is a single plan; the only choice is the billing term.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Marmalead you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 48 of the 51 other keyword research tools grade higher. It costs $189.96 a year.
What you could not
- Search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- People on the other end: coaches. No app builder makes those.
What this rests on. Marmalead’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
