Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
1.8
GPA, above 0 of the 21 other SEO tools we grade
Moz Pro is a web-based SEO toolkit from Moz. It combines Keyword Explorer and Link Explorer for research with campaigns that track a site's rankings against competitors, crawl it for technical errors and produce reports. Newer plans add tracking of how a brand shows up in AI chat answers, and paid plans include the MozBar Chrome extension.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Moz Pro, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Onboarding tips and fix-it instructions in Site Crawl help beginners, but campaigns still need setting up and there's a fair bit to learn.

The report card
Best for guided SEO for small businesses new to it
Moz Pro bundles keyword and link research, rank tracking against three competitors, site crawls and AI answer tracking, with the MozBar extension thrown in. Standard, the plan aimed at small businesses, is $79 a month on yearly billing. The trouble is it allows just 150 keyword queries a month, and 5,000 means Medium at $143.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | Standard is $79 a month billed yearly ($99 monthly), and Moz pitches it at small businesses. That's about twice this category's middle for 1 user, 3 campaigns and 150 keyword queries a month. Proper research room sits on Medium at $143. Starter, at $49, is for one site. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A free Moz Community account gives limited use of Keyword Explorer, Link Explorer and MozBar. The trial only covers Medium billed monthly, needs a card, and Moz doesn't say how long it lasts. |
| Features | C | Keyword Explorer, Link Explorer, rank tracking on up to four search engines, Site Crawl, and AI answer tracking across GPT, Gemini, AI Mode and Perplexity. The gap the listing names is on Standard: 150 keyword queries a month runs out fast. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. Onboarding tips and fix-it instructions in Site Crawl help beginners, but campaigns still need setting up and there's a fair bit to learn. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Web plus the MozBar Chrome extension. The listing names no integrations, and the Moz API and Moz Local are separate products with their own prices. No desktop or phone app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Moz Pro is for
- Great if you're new to SEO and want a tool that explains what to fix
- Good for small teams who want two or three users without paying per seat, on Medium or Large
- Handy when you want keyword rankings and AI answer tracking on one plan
Who it is not for
- Tight if you research keywords every day, as Standard stops at 150 queries a month
- Pricey if you just want the basics, at $79 a month on yearly billing
- Skip it if you want to try before paying, since the trial needs a card and only covers Medium
Good to know
Good for
- Small businesses and beginners who want guided SEO with onboarding tips
- Teams that need two or three users without paying per seat
- Marketers who want rank tracking and AI answer tracking in one plan
Worth knowing
- Standard allows only 150 keyword queries a month, against 5,000 on Medium.
- Extra user seats cost $49 a month each; more campaigns are $10 a month each and 200 more keywords $20.
- The free trial is only for the Medium plan billed monthly, needs a credit card, and ends if you buy an add-on.
- Moz Local, for business listings, and the Moz API are separate products with their own prices.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Moz Pro you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 21 of the 21 other SEO tools grade higher. It costs $588 a year.
What you could not
- Search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date.
- An index of the links between billions of web pages.
- Daily checks of where your pages rank in search results.
- A crawler that checks every page of a site.
- An API that other software can build on.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
What this rests on. Moz Pro’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
