Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 2 of the 14 other SMS and chat marketing tools we grade
PushOwl is a Shopify app that sends web push notifications, the browser alerts a shopper agrees to on a store's site, rather than text or chat messages. It runs abandoned-cart, back-in-stock and price-drop alerts, and because PushOwl is part of Brevo, the same plans add email campaigns and SMS credits. Paid plans are priced by how many push notifications are delivered each month.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about PushOwl, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1

It's part of Brevo, so the same plans add email and SMS credits.

The report card
Best for browser alerts for Shopify stores
PushOwl sends web push notifications, the little browser alerts a shopper agrees to on your store, for abandoned carts, price drops and things back in stock. It's part of Brevo, so the same plans add email and SMS credits. It's cheap at $15 a month billed yearly, but it only works with Shopify, and a browser alert isn't a text.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Plus is $15 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly) for up to 10,000 web pushes, far more than 1,000 subscribers need, and the pushes are in that price. That's the cheaper quarter of this category. SMS credits are extra, from 750 for $7.50, if you want texts too. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The free Basic bundle gives 500 web pushes and 500 emails a month, with price-drop and back-in-stock alerts. One send to 1,000 subscribers blows past it, and abandoned-cart alerts need Plus. |
| Features | D | It does web push for Shopify well, with campaigns, store automations and segments on Power. But it only works inside a Shopify store, and browser alerts are one narrow kind of message; email and SMS come through Brevo. |
| Ease of use | B | No App Store rating on record, but it's a Shopify app: you add it to the store you already run, and the price-drop and back-in-stock automations come with it. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Web only, and it connects to just two things: Shopify, which it needs, and Brevo, which owns it. No phone app and no other integrations on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who PushOwl is for
- Great if you run a Shopify store and want to win back abandoned carts without collecting phone numbers
- Handy when you want to start free and add email later
- Good for stores already on Brevo or thinking about it
Who it is not for
- Not for you if your store isn't on Shopify, as that's the only platform it works with
- Skip it if you want real texts or WhatsApp chats, as its main channel is browser alerts
- Tight if you stay free, at 500 web pushes and 500 emails a month
Good to know
Good for
- Shopify stores that want to recover abandoned carts without collecting phone numbers
- Small shops starting on a free plan and adding email later
- Stores already on Brevo or considering it for email
Worth knowing
- Works only with Shopify stores; the site says it is built for Shopify alone.
- Plans count delivered push notifications; Plus stops at 30,000 a month, so larger stores need Power, which steps up to 500,000.
- Email past 500 a month is extra (5,000 emails for $19, 10,000 for $25), and SMS credits cost $10 per 1,000 at the first steps.
- Abandoned-cart alerts start at Plus; browse abandonment, segmentation and custom automations need Power.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace PushOwl you would be making email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 6 of the 14 other SMS and chat marketing tools grade higher. It costs $180 a year.
What you could not
- Email sent in volume that still reaches the inbox.
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- Texts to thousands of numbers, registered with the carriers.
What this rests on. PushOwl’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
