How we grade them

2.4GPAPrivyFair2.2GPAPushOwlFair
Value for money
C$30 a month for 1,500 mailable contacts, at the dear end of what email tools charge, though it includes unlimited sends and 250 SMS credits. It's $165 a month at 10,000 contacts, and a pop-ups-only plan is $24.
BPlus is $15 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly) for up to 10,000 web pushes, far more than 1,000 subscribers need, and the pushes are in that price. That's the cheaper quarter of this category. SMS credits are extra, from 750 for $7.50, if you want texts too.
Free plan and trial
CNo free plan, but the 15-day trial needs no card. That's enough to put a pop-up on your shop and see if people sign up.
CThe free Basic bundle gives 500 web pushes and 500 emails a month, with price-drop and back-in-stock alerts. One send to 1,000 subscribers blows past it, and abandoned-cart alerts need Plus.
Features
BPop-ups with exit intent, spin-to-win, quizzes and cart savers, landing pages, A/B tests, an email editor that pulls in your products and coupons, ready-made cart, welcome and purchase flows, texts and revenue reports. For a shop, that's the whole job.
DIt does web push for Shopify well, with campaigns, store automations and segments on Power. But it only works inside a Shopify store, and browser alerts are one narrow kind of message; email and SMS come through Brevo.
Ease of use
CNo App Store rating on record and no phone app. It plugs into your store, but you'll still be designing pop-ups and choosing flows before it earns its keep.
BNo App Store rating on record, but it's a Shopify app: you add it to the store you already run, and the price-drop and back-in-stock automations come with it.
Platforms and integrations
BWeb, with Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Weebly and Klaviyo. No API on record and no desktop or phone app, so B is as high as it goes.
CWeb only, and it connects to just two things: Shopify, which it needs, and Brevo, which owns it. No phone app and no other integrations on record.

Worth knowing

Privy

  • A pop-ups-only plan priced by page views starts at $24 a month for 10,000 views and syncs contacts to your store or Klaviyo.

PushOwl

  • Works only with Shopify stores; the site says it is built for Shopify alone.
