Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 40 of the 48 other CRM tools we grade

Twenty is an open-source CRM aimed at teams that want to shape the system around their own data. Custom objects, fields, views and no-code workflows are unlimited on every plan, and developers can extend it with TypeScript apps and a REST and GraphQL API. It runs on Twenty's managed cloud, priced per user, or on your own servers, where the open-source core is free.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Twenty, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No rating on record, and it's aimed at technical teams: designing your own objects, fields and views is the work, not a side effect of it.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for technical teams shaping a CRM around their data

Twenty is an open-source CRM you shape yourself, with custom objects, relations and no-code workflows on every plan.

As its pricing page puts it: $9 per user / month, billed yearly ($12 billed monthly).

  6. 6

    Table, kanban and calendar views

Any object can be shown as a table, a kanban board or a calendar, with AND/OR filters, multi-field sorting, grouping and saved views.

  7. 7

    Keep it

To replace Twenty you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for technical teams shaping a CRM around their data

Twenty is an open-source CRM you shape yourself, with custom objects, relations and no-code workflows on every plan. The cloud is $9 a user on yearly billing and the core is free on your own servers. But it's a browser app with no phone apps listed, SSO and audit logs need $19 a user, the API is capped at 50 calls a minute, and its own docs say the integration list is short.

ToolGPA report cardTwentyGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBCloud Pro is $9 a user a month on yearly billing, or $12 monthly, in the cheapest quarter of this category against a $24 middle. And it isn't a stripped plan: unlimited records and custom objects, workflows, AI agents and the API are all in. SSO and audit logs need Organization at $19.
Free plan and trialBThe open-source core is free on your own servers, with full customization, custom apps and up to 5 workspaces. The price is hosting it yourself with community support. The cloud has no free plan, only a 30-day trial that doesn't need a card.
FeaturesBCustom objects with more than 20 field types, table, kanban and calendar views of anything, a visual workflow builder, Google and Microsoft mail and calendar sync, AI agents inside your permissions, and REST and GraphQL APIs. It covers the CRM job, without campaigns, quoting or a help desk.
Ease of useCNo rating on record, and it's aimed at technical teams: designing your own objects, fields and views is the work, not a side effect of it. The cloud at least is hosted for you, while the free route puts a server on your plate as well.
Platforms and integrationsBA web app, with no phone or desktop app on our listing. It connects to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Zapier, and cloud workspaces come with an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT. The API is on every plan, limited to 50 calls a minute on Pro.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Twenty is for

  • Fits if you're a technical team and want the CRM built round your data, not the other way
  • Works for teams that need to self-host and keep CRM data on their own servers

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want a phone app, as it's a web app only
  • Not for you if you want it free without running a server, because the cloud only has a 30-day trial
  • Tight if you lean on lots of ready-made integrations, as Twenty's own docs say its range isn't as broad as Salesforce's or HubSpot's yet
  • Pricey if you need SSO, row-level permissions or audit logs, which need Organization at $19 a user
  • Watch out: the API is capped at 50 calls a minute on Pro, and there are no campaigns, quotes or help desk

Good to know

Good for

  • Technical teams that want to shape a CRM around their own data model
  • Organizations that need to self-host and own their CRM data
  • Teams wanting a low per-seat price with unlimited custom objects

Worth knowing

  • The hosted cloud has no free plan, only a 30-day trial; the free option means self-hosting with community support.
  • SSO, row-level permissions and audit logs need Organization at $19 per user / month, on cloud or self-hosted.
  • Pro API access is limited to 50 calls a minute, or 100 on Organization.
  • Twenty's own docs say its integration ecosystem is not yet as broad as Salesforce's or HubSpot's.

Part 02 · Tips

Insider tips

What most people miss: ways to pay less, settings worth changing and the catches

6

Things most people miss, each from its own help pages

The things about Twenty that are easy to miss until they cost you: ways to pay less, settings worth changing and the catches at renewal or when you leave. Each one is from Twenty’s own pages, linked beside it.

Read on Oct 17, 2026. Read from Twenty's documentation, pricing page and terms on 17 October 2026. Not tried out: these tips are what its own pages say.

  1. 1

    Renewal

The 30-day trial asks for a card, the 7-day one doesn't

Twenty's sign-up guide offers two trials with full access: 30 days with a credit card, or 7 days without one. If you hand over a card, put the end date in your calendar.

    docs.twenty.com
  2. 2

    Pay less

Workflows and AI draw on credits worth $1 each

Its credits page says one credit is $1 of usage for workflows, AI agents and AI chat. Monthly billing includes 5 a month and yearly billing 50 a year, and unused credits roll over up to one period's worth. Check what's eating them, by workflow, in Settings → Billing.

    docs.twenty.com
  3. 3

    Shortcut

Press Cmd+K for the command menu and / to search

Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) opens a menu for creating records, getting back deleted records and seeing the shortcuts that jump to each object. Press / to search across everything.

    docs.twenty.com
  4. 4

    Setting

Give every API key its own role

Twenty's permissions page says API keys without a role use default permissions, and it advises a specific role for production keys. Assign one under Settings → Members → Roles, in the role's Assignment tab. While you're there, set the Default Role new members get.

    docs.twenty.com
  5. 5

    Renewal

Price rises wait for your renewal, with 30 days' notice

Twenty's terms say subscriptions renew automatically, price changes only apply at your next renewal, and you get at least 30 days' notice of an increase. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for, and fees aren't refunded.

    twenty.com
  6. 6

    Leaving

Export your data before you stop paying

The terms let you export any time while a trial or subscription is active. Once it ends, the workspace is suspended and data is kept for at least 14 days, with an email warning before it's deleted. To get at the export then, you'd have to reactivate.

40/48

Other CRM tools it is graded above

Twenty's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 40 of the 48 other CRM tools we grade, and level with 7.

It stands best on value for money (B, above 42 of 48) and worst on ease of use (C, above 1).

Its paid plans start at $9 a month for each person, against a middle price of $24 for the category: 3 of the 46 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. Nothing scores higher for less, though at least one tool matches that score at a lower price.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Twenty you would be making connections to other products, each kept working as those products change. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 40 of the 48 other CRM tools we grade. It costs $108 a year. Twenty is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.

What you could make

  • Sales pipeline: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Twenty’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
