Backlink Pilot review (2026): is the free plan enough?
Monitor for placed backlinks, organized by client and partner

Backlink Pilot report card
Fair · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 23, 2026
Best for checking that links you've placed are still live
Backlink Pilot rechecks links you've placed for the right page, anchor and follow status, and keeps each partner and link exchange attached to the links it produced. It won't find a single new backlink, the free plan only checks once a month, and the biggest published plan stops at 5,000 links.
Who Backlink Pilot is for
- Fits if you keep placed links in a spreadsheet today and check them by hand
- Works for agencies running reciprocal or three-way link exchanges with many partners
Who Backlink Pilot is not for
- Skip it if you want backlinks discovered, as it only watches links you add or import
- Tight if you stay free, as the cap is 100 links and they're checked once a month
- Too light for portfolios over 5,000 links, where the largest published plan stops
- Not for you if your links need to flow into other tools, as no integrations or API are on record
- Watch out: paid plans are bought only from your profile inside the app, after you sign up free
Why Backlink Pilot gets a 2.2
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- BValue for moneyStarter is $15 a month for up to 500 links, right at the start of this category's cheaper quarter. Agency is $29 for 2,000 and Scale $59 for 5,000, all with weekly checks.
- CFree plan and trialFree with no card and no time limit, for up to 100 links with unlimited clients and partners. But those links are checked once a month, and an agency, the user it's built for, will pass 100 links quickly.
- CFeaturesChecks of destination, anchor and follow status, CSV import, sorting by client and partner, a ledger for reciprocal and three-way exchanges, and a monthly health report. It does placed-link monitoring fully, but that's a smaller job: it watches only the links you add and finds none itself.
- CEase of useNo rating on record. You import your link sheet by CSV and record the destination, anchor and follow status agreed for each link before the checks mean much.
- CPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, with no apps, integrations or API on record.

Keep Backlink Pilot, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace Backlink Pilot you would be making an index of the links between billions of web pages. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It costs $180 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- An index of the links between billions of web pages.
What this rests on. Backlink Pilot’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
What is Backlink Pilot?
Backlink Pilot is a web app for agencies that keeps checking the backlinks they have already placed. You import or add each link with the destination, anchor text and follow status you agreed on, and it flags any page where the link has gone, changed or turned nofollow. It also records which partner gave which link, including reciprocal and three-way exchanges.
Worth knowing
- It only monitors links you add or import; finding new backlinks is outside the product.
- The free plan checks links once a month; weekly checks need a paid plan.
- The largest published plan stops at 5,000 links.
- Every account starts on the free plan, and paid plans are bought from inside the app.
Key features
- Link checks
- Revisits each linking page to confirm the destination URL is still there, the anchor text matches and the follow status is what was agreed.
- Check frequency
- Links are checked monthly on the free plan and weekly on paid plans, and each placement shows when it was last checked.
- CSV import
- Upload an existing link sheet with its partners by CSV, or add new placements one at a time as they go live.
- Clients and partners
- Sort placements by client and by partner, and track links received alongside links given in return.
- Exchange ledger
- Groups the partners and placements in each reciprocal or ABC exchange, so the whole deal stays attached to the links it produced.
- Health queue and monthly report
- One list shows every placement with its crawl result, including missing, nofollow and forbidden links, plus a monthly health report.
