Best for UK journalist requests for PR teams
ResponseSource emails moderated requests from UK journalists who need comment, case studies or products, and one licence covers a whole office. It's sold by sector from £625 a year before VAT, each sector is a separate subscription, and its pages describe UK media only.
Who ResponseSource is for
- Fits if you're a UK PR team after national, regional and trade coverage
- Works for consumer brands answering journalists who want products to review
Who ResponseSource is not for
- Skip it if your market isn't the UK, as its pages describe UK media only
- Pricey if you cover several sectors, as each is a separate yearly subscription from £625 plus VAT at 20%
- Watch out: the price varies by sector and only the £625 floor is published
- Pricey if you also send releases, as Press Release Wire is extra, from £85 a release
- Watch out: the Vuelio media database on the same page is priced only by quote, and the trial is arranged by form or phone
Why ResponseSource gets a 2.4
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- BValue for money£625 a year and up per sector, before VAT, and one licence covers a whole office. Split across a team of five that's about £10 a head a month, inside this category's cheaper quarter. On your own it's about £52 a month per sector.
- CFree plan and trialNo free plan, but a free one-week trial of the enquiry service, arranged by form or phone.
- CFeaturesModerated requests from national, regional, trade and consumer journalists, 25 sectors, delivery filters and an office-wide licence. It does the job fully, but only for UK media, and the press release wire is priced on top.
- BEase of useNo rating on record, but enquiries arrive by email, already checked by a moderation team, and you narrow them with delivery filters.
- CPlatforms and integrationsWeb and email only, with no apps, integrations or API on record.

Keep ResponseSource, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace ResponseSource you would be making a network of journalists who post requests for sources. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.4 is higher than 37 of the 50 other link building tools we grade. It costs $826.27 a year.
What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A network of journalists who post requests for sources.
What this rests on. ResponseSource’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
