LinkCheck review (2026): is it any good?
Free backlink monitor for up to 5,000 links you import

LinkCheck report card
Very good · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 23, 2026
Best for free monitoring of backlinks you've already found
LinkCheck watches up to 5,000 backlinks you import from Ahrefs, Semrush or a CSV, for free, and flags the ones that go missing, redirect or change. It finds no links itself, there's no fixed check schedule, and the managed link placements it sells on the side are priced only once you sign in.
Who LinkCheck is for
- Fits if you find links in Ahrefs or Semrush and want the ones that matter watched for free
- Works for agencies watching placed links across up to 25 client domains
Who LinkCheck is not for
- Skip it if you want links discovered for you, as it only watches what you import or add
- Watch out: there's no fixed check interval, and each link's page shows when it will next be checked
- Not for you if you want lost links chased, as it records changes but sends no outreach and recovers nothing
- Watch out: managed link placements are sold separately, with prices shown only after you sign in
- Too light for more than 5,000 backlinks or 25 domains, the limits of the one free account
Why LinkCheck gets a 3.0
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- AValue for moneyFree, with no paid monitoring plan at all: up to 5,000 backlinks across 25 domains for nothing. What it sells is managed link placements, as separate orders.
- AFree plan and trialFree with no card and no time limit, for 5,000 backlinks across 25 verified domains. That's a cap a normal site owner won't reach.
- CFeaturesFlags missing, blocked and redirected pages, changed destinations, nofollow and anchor text, with an evidence view and notes beside each link. It does monitoring fully, but that's a smaller job, and it discovers no links, so you need Ahrefs, Semrush or your own list first.
- CEase of useNo rating on record. You verify your email and domain, then import a CSV or add links by hand before anything gets checked.
- BPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, with no desktop or phone app. It reads Google Search Console and Google Analytics and takes Ahrefs and Semrush exports. No API on record.

Keep LinkCheck, or make your own?
Keep it
LinkCheck is free, so making your own would save you nothing.
And it is not the kind of software a weekend replaces. It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 50 of the 50 other link building tools we grade.
What you could make
- Link outreach: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- An index of the links between billions of web pages.
What this rests on. LinkCheck’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
What is LinkCheck?
LinkCheck is a web app that watches a list of backlinks you already have and flags the ones that go missing, redirect, change anchor text or turn nofollow. You import links from Ahrefs or Semrush exports or another CSV, then review each change with the recorded and detected values side by side. Monitoring is free; LinkCheck also sells managed link placements as separate orders.
Worth knowing
- It does not discover backlinks; you import them from another tool or add them by hand.
- There is no fixed check interval: the timing varies by link, and each link's page shows its next check.
- It does not send outreach or recover lost links for you; it records changes and keeps follow-up notes.
- Marketplace placements are bought separately, and their prices are shown only after you sign in.
Key features
- Backlink import
- Bring in Ahrefs or Semrush backlink exports, any CSV with referring-page and target columns, or single links by hand, with a preview that flags import problems.
- Change detection
- Records missing or blocked pages, redirects, changed destinations, nofollow and other attribute changes, anchor text changes and recovered links.
- Evidence view
- Shows what was recorded next to what the latest check found, with the referring page and target URL open together for review.
- Notes and recovery guidance
- Keep notes, contact details and recovery steps beside each link, and export a filtered view as CSV for a teammate.
- Google connections
- Optional read-only connections to Google Search Console and Google Analytics, plus Google Sign-In.
- Marketplace placements
- Paid managed link placements that feed into monitoring once verified, with one year of placement support and a full refund if delivery fails.
