Our verdict

First of our top three online fax services

For: Most people who send and receive faxes

Fax.Plus sends and receives from any email inbox, a print menu, a browser and apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, with local, toll-free or ported numbers in 48 countries. Basic is $6.99 a month billed yearly ($8.99 monthly) for one number and 200 pages, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.7 from about 13,000 ratings. Know the limits: the free account sends 10 pages in total and cannot receive; Basic charges 10 cents a page over 200 and caps a fax at 60 pages; porting a US or Canadian number needs Premium at $13.99; and a signed HIPAA BAA, the API and Zapier need Enterprise at $79.99.

Why Fax.Plus gets a 3.0

  • BValue for moneyBasic is $6.99 a month billed yearly ($8.99 monthly) for a number and 200 pages, right at the edge of this category's cheapest quarter. Extra pages are 10 cents, and the BAA and API need Enterprise at $79.99.
  • CFree plan and trialA free account sends 10 pages in total and then stops. It has no number, so it can't receive a single fax. Enough for one form, not for a month.
  • BFeaturesLocal, toll-free or ported numbers in 48 countries, faxing from email, print menus and apps, broadcast to 500 people, scheduling, AI text extraction, a team console and an API. Nothing in the listing is missing from the job.

  • APlatforms and integrationsWeb, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, with Gmail, Google Drive, Word, Teams, Slack, Dropbox and Zapier, and an API. Slack needs Business, and Zapier and the API need Enterprise.

Keep Fax.Plus, or make your own?

Keep it

To replace Fax.Plus you would be making fax numbers connected to the phone network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 10 of the 10 other online fax services we grade. It costs $83.88 a year.

What you could not

  • Fax numbers connected to the phone network.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, Gmail, Google Drive and Microsoft Word among them, and has an API.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on, SCIM, HIPAA and roles and permissions.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Fax.Plus’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

What is Fax.Plus?

Fax.Plus is an online fax service from Alohi, a Swiss company. It sends and receives faxes from a browser, email, print menus and apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, using a local or toll-free number or one ported in. Plans are priced by the pages included each month, and the Enterprise plan adds the API, single sign-on and a signed HIPAA agreement.

Worth knowing

  • The free account has 10 pages in total and cannot receive faxes; a paid plan is needed for a number.
  • Fax.Plus says HIPAA compliance with a signed BAA is available on the Enterprise plan only.
  • The API and Zapier integration are listed only under Enterprise, which starts at $79.99 a month billed annually.
  • Extra numbers cost $4.99 a month each beyond the two on Business and Enterprise; choosing a specific number is a one-time $19.99.
