iFax report card
Good · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 24, 2026
Best for fax apps on every device, with HIPAA plans
iFax has apps for iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac and a fax API, and its Pro plan reads faxes into data with OCR and AI. The catch is the ladder: Basic at $12.49 a month only sends, a number to receive on needs Plus at $24.99, and fax by email and the team inbox wait for Pro at $33.33.
Who iFax is for
- Fits if you fax from your phone and your laptop and want the same app on both
- Works for small healthcare or legal teams that need HIPAA fax with a shared inbox
Who iFax is not for
- Skip it if you need to receive on Basic, which sends only and has no number
- Pricey if you want fax by email, the team inbox, SSO or OCR, as they start on Pro at $33.33 a month billed yearly
- Watch out: Pro's price moves with the pages, numbers and licenses you pick, with extra users from $16.66 and US numbers at $4.99 a month
- Watch out: the API, EHR integrations and fax broadcast are priced separately on their own tabs
- Pricey if you only fax once in a while, as pay-per-fax starts at $1.99 a page
Why iFax gets a 2.6
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- DValue for moneyBasic is $12.49 a month billed yearly but has no fax number, so it can't receive. Receiving starts on Plus at $24.99 ($29.99 monthly), about two and a half times this category's middle of $9.96.
- CFree plan and trialA 7-day trial of Pro, and no free plan after it. The listing doesn't say whether the trial takes a card. A one-off fax costs from $1.99 a page.
- BFeaturesSend and receive on every platform, new or ported numbers, a team inbox, OCR, AI extraction and chat, a branded page customers fax you from, broadcast and an API. That's the whole job, though most of it is on Pro.
- BEase of useiFax rates 4.5 on the US App Store from 37,609 ratings, which puts it at B on our ease ladder.
- APlatforms and integrationsiPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and web, with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Gmail, Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, HubSpot and Zapier, plus a fax API priced on its own.

Keep iFax, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace iFax you would be making fax numbers connected to the phone network. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.6 is higher than 8 of the 10 other online fax services we grade. It costs $149.88 a year.
What you could not
- Fax numbers connected to the phone network.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- It plugs into other products, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Gmail among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: HIPAA.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. iFax’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
