Our verdict

Second of our top three keyword research tools

For: Bloggers who research all day and want site audits too

KeySearch shows volume, CPC and a difficulty score by country, a rival site's keywords, backlinks, YouTube ideas, rank tracking and site audits. Starter is $20 a month billed annually ($24 monthly) for 200 keyword searches a day, 80 tracked keywords and 2,000 audited pages. It allows more searches a day than Keyword Revealer's Basic, but sits second because it costs more to start, has no free plan after the 7-day trial, has no API or integrations, and Foresight and team sharing need Pro at $40 a month.

Best for keyword research with rank tracking included

KeySearch covers keyword research with a difficulty score, competitor and backlink checks, YouTube ideas, rank tracking and site audits, from $20 a month on yearly billing, for bloggers and small sites. But Starter tracks 80 keywords, Foresight and team sharing wait on Pro at $40, there's no API or integrations, and no free plan after the 7-day trial.

Who KeySearch is for

  • Fits if you run a blog or niche site and want the main SEO jobs for about $20 a month
  • Works for hunting long-tail keywords a small site can rank for

Who KeySearch is not for

  • Tight if you track lots of keywords, as Starter stops at 80 and Pro at 200
  • Skip it if you want keyword data in your other tools, as there's no API on record
  • Not for you if you want longer than a week to try it, as there's no free plan
  • Watch out: Foresight and team sharing are Pro only, at $40 a month on yearly billing
  • Watch out: AI writing runs on monthly credits, 5,000 on Starter, and the listing doesn't say if the trial needs a card

Why KeySearch gets a 2.2

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyStarter is $20 a month on yearly billing, or $24 monthly, which sits a little above this category's $17 middle for research, tracking and audits in one account. Pro, with Foresight and team sharing, is $40.
  • CFree plan and trialNo free plan, just a 7-day trial and a set of free stand-alone tools. The listing doesn't say whether a card is needed. The terms let you ask for a refund within 30 days of a first purchase.
  • BFeaturesVolume, CPC and a difficulty score by country, a rival's keywords, a backlink checker, YouTube research, rank tracking, audits and an AI writer. That covers the whole job. The limits are on the extras, like 80 tracked keywords on Starter.
  • CEase of useNo rating on record. Looking up a keyword is quick, but it's a suite: rank tracking, audits and Foresight all need your site and keywords set up first, and AI use runs on monthly credits.
  • CPlatforms and integrationsWeb only. There's no desktop or phone app, and the listing shows no integrations and no API.

Keep KeySearch, or make your own?

Keep it

To replace KeySearch you would be making search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 29 of the 51 other keyword research tools grade higher. It costs $240 a year.

What you could not

  • Search volumes for millions of keywords, gathered and kept up to date.
  • An index of the links between billions of web pages.
  • Daily checks of where your pages rank in search results.
  • A crawler that checks every page of a site.
  • A score built from what the top results for each keyword cover.
  • Search data for YouTube topics and channels.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. KeySearch’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
