Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 2 of the 12 other popup and widget tools we grade
BDOW!, formerly Sumo, adds popups, smart bars, welcome mats, scroll boxes, inline forms and social proof notifications to a website to collect email addresses. It can also send welcome emails and broadcasts to the list it collects, run A/B tests and show discount offers to shoppers. Showit, the website builder, bought Sumo in 2024 and rebuilt it under the new name; it is sold as a single Pro plan priced by stored contacts.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about BDOW!, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The report card
Best for popups and list emails on Showit or WordPress
BDOW! is the old Sumo, now owned by Showit and sold as one Pro plan: popups, bars, welcome mats, A/B tests, social proof and simple emails to your list. At $19 a month billed yearly for one site, that's a lot for the money. But the free plan has gone, the trial needs a card, and there's no Shopify app right now.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | A site with 20,000 visitors pays $19 a month billed yearly ($25 monthly) for 1 site, as long as sign-ups go on to your own email tool once 1,000 contacts are stored. That's in the cheapest quarter here. Keep the list in BDOW! and it's $48 at 10,000 contacts. |
| Free plan and trial | D | No free plan any more, though the site's menu still says free forever. The 14-day trial needs a card up front, and you're charged unless you cancel before day 14. |
| Features | C | Popups, bars, welcome mats, scroll boxes and inline forms, exit intent, A/B tests, social proof, countdowns, cart recovery, discount codes and emails to your list. A lot for one plan, but its Shopify app is unavailable for now, so the shop tools stop at WooCommerce. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. A drag-and-drop editor and templates help, and on Showit it's added from inside your account. You still build the forms, set the targeting and write the emails. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, with Showit, WordPress and WooCommerce, and sign-ups sent to Mailchimp, Kit, Flodesk, Klaviyo and AWeber. No Shopify app for now, and no desktop or phone app. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who BDOW! is for
- Great if your site is on Showit, since you add it from inside your Showit account
- Handy when you want popups and simple welcome emails in one place
- Good for WooCommerce shops that want cart recovery and discount popups
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you sell on Shopify, as its Shopify app is unavailable for now
- Not for you if you want to try it without a card, as the trial needs one
- Pricey if you run several sites, as each one needs its own Pro plan
Good to know
Good for
- Showit websites, where it is added from inside the Showit account
- Small businesses that want popups and simple list emails in one tool
- Former Sumo users looking for the product's current home
Worth knowing
- There is no longer a free plan: the trial needs a card, though the site's menu still says free forever.
- Each plan covers one site; a second site needs a second Pro subscription.
- Its Shopify app is unavailable for now; the vendor says a new one is coming.
- Past the stored-contact limit, new sign-ups are only forwarded to your connected email tool; 50,000+ contacts is priced on request.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace BDOW! you would be making newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 6 of the 12 other popup and widget tools grade higher. It costs $228 a year.
What you could make
- Popups and forms: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Newsletters sent to thousands of people that still reach the inbox.
- Splitting visitors between versions and telling you which won.
- It plugs into other products, Showit, WordPress and WooCommerce among them.
What this rests on. BDOW!’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
