Who each one suits
Routinery
- People who know what to do but find it hard to start or lose track of time
- Fixed-order routines such as mornings, bedtimes, study blocks and workouts
- Adults with ADHD who want every step timed and announced aloud
- Managing routines by conversation from ChatGPT or Claude
Ultiself
- People who want explained habit suggestions instead of a blank list
- Relating habits to daily mood, health and productivity ratings
- Users who want meditation, breathwork and focus audio next to tracking
Worth knowing
Routinery
- The free plan stops at 2 routines and shows ads. When a subscription lapses, all but the free routines are deactivated.
- There is no web version, no direct sync with Apple Health or calendars, and no export button; data is pulled out through the MCP connection.
- The Mac version is the iPad app: the App Store marks it as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS, and it needs an Apple M1 chip or later.
- The US App Store shows two prices each for monthly and yearly Premium, so the amount charged in the app may differ from either.
Ultiself
- The free version limits how many habits can be tracked, and unlimited habits, in-depth stats, expert routines and sleep tracking tools need Premium.
- The website publishes no prices. The US App Store shows a monthly plan at $5.99 and four yearly amounts from $17.99 to $39.99; the app shows the one that applies.
- The App Store list also has a 3 month item at $39.99, a lifetime item at $29.99 and unlabelled items up to $89.99, though the listing names only Monthly and Yearly plans.
- Mobile only: the website offers a habit directory and subscription management, but no web or desktop app.
Key features
Routinery
- Step-by-step routine timer
- Each step of a routine runs on its own timer and a voice reads out the next one, so the routine carries on while the phone is out of sight. Timers can be stretched and steps skipped or reordered mid-run.
- Scheduled routines and quick starts
- Set the weekdays and time for a routine and a reminder arrives then. Routines can also be started from home and lock screen widgets, a start link, or Siri Shortcuts on iOS.
- Tasks, Anytime list and timeline
- One-off tasks get a timer too, tasks you cannot face yet can be parked in Anytime, and the day can be viewed as a list, a calendar or a timeline.
- Streaks, statistics and mood
- A plant grows for each day a streak is kept, and finishing one routine or task is enough to continue it. Weekly and monthly statistics and a daily mood record show patterns over time.
- Shared routines
- Share a routine's task list with family or a friend, see how far each person got, and have the result of a finished routine sent to someone you pick.
- MCP connection to AI assistants
- An MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Gemini CLI view, create and edit routines, with each change confirmed by you first. It is available without a paid plan.
Ultiself
- Habit library
- More than 300 habit breakdowns, searchable by the area to improve, each explaining how to practice the habit and why it works, with practical tips.
- Routine timeline
- Chosen habits are placed on a single timeline from morning to evening, so the day's commitments appear in one list ordered by time of day.
- Daily ratings and habit insights
- A check-in of about 30 seconds each evening logs mood, health and productivity, and insights show how those ratings relate to the habits tracked, including sleep.
- Stats and scoring
- Weekly targets, streaks and a scoring system show progress day by day. In-depth stats are part of Premium.
- Built-in practice tools
- Thirteen tools, including breathwork, guided meditation, self hypnosis, binaural beats, white noise and a focus timer, attach to a habit so finishing a session logs it.
- AI Fitness Coach
- Given a goal, the equipment available and the number of training days, it writes a training and nutrition plan and adjusts it as sessions are logged.
