BrightLocal review (2026): is it worth $31 a month, billed yearly?
Local SEO platform for rankings, listings, reviews and AI visibility
Our verdict
Second of our top three local SEO tools
For: Businesses and agencies tracking map rankings and listings
BrightLocal tracks local rankings for up to 100 keywords per location, maps them on a geogrid, audits listings and citations, and checks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews recommend a business, with white-label reports. Track is $31 a month for one location billed annually ($41 monthly), after a 14-day trial with no card. It is second because it costs money from the start and the platform works only in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Listing sync needs Manage at $40, review replies Grow at $49, and Citation Builder is paid per site on top.

Best for local rankings, listings and reviews in one account
BrightLocal tracks local and map rankings, audits your listings and checks whether ChatGPT and Google's AI answers recommend you, from $31 a month for one location on yearly billing. Listing sync and review tools wait on the dearer plans, citation building is paid per site on top, and the platform only works in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
Who BrightLocal is for
- Fits if your business is in the US, UK, Canada or Australia and you want rankings and listings in one account
- Works for agencies sending white-label local ranking reports for many client locations
Who BrightLocal is not for
- Skip it if your business is outside the US, UK, Canada and Australia, where only citation building works
- Tight if you're on Track, as listing sync starts at Manage ($40) and review replies at Grow ($49)
- Watch out: Citation Builder is paid per site, from $3.20 or $2 with bulk credits, on top of any plan
- Not for you if you want a free plan, since after the 14-day trial you can only look at old data
- Watch out: above 100 locations prices are on request, and a downgrade takes effect at once with no refund
Why BrightLocal gets a 2.4
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- CValue for moneyTrack is $31 a month for one location on yearly billing, $41 monthly. That's right at this category's middle ($31). Listing sync needs Manage at $40, reviews need Grow at $49, and the price climbs with every location you add.
- CFree plan and trialNo free plan, but a 14-day trial with full access and no card. When it ends you can still log in and see your data, but you can't run new reports until you pay.
- BFeaturesRank tracking for 100 keywords, a geogrid, audits, citation tracking and AI answer checks on every plan, then listing sync, Google post scheduling and review requests higher up. It covers the whole job, with citation building bought per site.
- CEase of useNo rating on record. You add locations, keywords and competitors and connect Google Business Profile before the reports fill in, and the plans split the tools three ways.
- BPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, with no desktop or phone app. It links to Google Business Profile, Google Analytics, Data Axle, Neustar Localeze and Foursquare, and has local SEO APIs and an MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude.

Keep BrightLocal, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace BrightLocal you would be making listings sent to dozens of directories and map apps, which takes an agreement with each. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.4 is higher than 43 of the 61 other local SEO tools we grade. It costs $372 a year.
What you could make
- Review collection and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Listings sent to dozens of directories and map apps, which takes an agreement with each.
- Daily checks of where your pages rank in search results.
- The same prompts asked of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers every day, and the answers kept.
- It plugs into other products, Google Business Profile, Google Analytics and Data Axle among them, and has an API.
- Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. BrightLocal’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

- Downgrades take effect at once and the unused part of the old plan is not refunded.
