Best for Google's search and traffic numbers in WordPress
Site Kit is Google's free plugin that puts Search Console, Analytics and PageSpeed numbers on your WordPress dashboard and places Google's tags for you. It edits nothing, though: no titles, meta descriptions, schema or sitemaps, so you'll still need an SEO plugin, and new sites can wait days for data.
Who Site Kit by Google is for
- Fits if you want Search Console and Analytics figures without leaving WordPress
- Works for agencies setting up Google tools for clients and emailing them stats
Who Site Kit by Google is not for
- Too light for SEO on its own, as it edits no titles, meta descriptions, schema or sitemaps
- Watch out: each admin who wants full access has to connect their own Google account
- Tight if your site is new, as data can take a few days to appear
- Skip it if your site isn't live and public on WordPress 5.2 or later with the REST API available
Why Site Kit by Google gets a 2.8
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- AValue for moneyFree and open source, and Google says it will stay free. Google products you connect through it, such as Google Ads, keep their own terms and any fees they charge.
- AFree plan and trialEvery feature is free. There's no paid plan, so nothing is held back.
- DFeaturesIt reports Google's numbers and places tags for Tag Manager, AdSense and Ads, but its pages list no title, meta, schema or sitemap editing, and it shows nothing until Search Console or Analytics is connected.
- CEase of useNo rating on record. Every admin wanting full access connects their own Google account, and new sites or services can take a few days to show data.
- BPlatforms and integrationsWeb only, inside WordPress, linked to Search Console, Analytics, PageSpeed Insights, Tag Manager, AdSense and Google Ads, and listed with Elementor and Hostinger.

Keep Site Kit by Google, or make your own?
Keep it

What you could make
- Reports: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A tracking script and a database that counts every visit.
- Speed tests run from real browsers on a schedule.
- It plugs into other products, Google Search Console, Google Analytics and PageSpeed Insights among them.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Site Kit by Google’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
