SOS Inventory report card

2.4GPA

Fair · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 18, 2026

Best for QuickBooks Online users who need sales orders

SOS Inventory adds what QuickBooks Online lacks: sales orders, partial shipments, pick tickets, serials and lots, several locations and assemblies, all synced back to your books. It's fairly priced for that, but a store connection costs extra, the entry plan has one location and no barcodes, and the only phone app is for iPhone.

Who SOS Inventory is for

  • Great if you run QuickBooks Online and need real sales orders and partial shipments
  • Handy when you track serial or lot numbers across several warehouses
  • Good for small manufacturers that want work orders and job costing beside QuickBooks

Who SOS Inventory is not for

  • Skip it if you don't use QuickBooks Online, as it's built around it
  • Tight if you start on Companion, which has one location and no barcodes or lots
  • Not for you if your warehouse team uses Android phones, as the app is iPhone and iPad only

Why SOS Inventory gets a 2.4

Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.

  • CValue for moneyCompanion is $699.50 a year billed yearly ($69.95 monthly) for 2 users and one location, and an online store connection like Shopify is $25 a month on top. That lands in the middle of this category, and it's built for people already paying for QuickBooks Online.
  • CFree plan and trialNo free plan, just a 14-day free trial to see how it fits with your QuickBooks Online books before you pay.
  • BFeaturesSales orders, partial shipments and invoices, pick tickets, serial and lot tracking, unlimited locations, assemblies, work orders and job costing, with FIFO, LIFO or average costing. The whole job, though serials, barcodes, pick tickets and extra locations need Plus.
  • CEase of useNo store rating on record. It runs alongside QuickBooks Online, so you'll connect that and set up items, locations and forms before it pays off.
  • BPlatforms and integrationsWeb and iPhone or iPad, with no Android app listed. It connects to QuickBooks Online, ShipStation, UPS and Zapier, and to Shopify, BigCommerce and PayPal as $25-a-month connections.

Keep SOS Inventory, or make your own?

Keep it

The plain part of SOS Inventory you could make: inventory, invoicing and reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 4 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

What you could make

  • Inventory, invoicing and reports: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Scanning barcodes with a phone camera or a scanner.
  • A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, QuickBooks Online, Shopify and BigCommerce among them.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
