Value for money
BPremium is $3.99 for 3 months, or $11.99 once for a lifetime, on the US App Store. That's cheap next to most focus apps. But the listings don't say what Premium unlocks, so we can't weigh the price against anything, and that keeps it at a B.
ALite is €2 a month billed annually (€24) and Ultimate is €3.50 (€42), both before VAT. That's well under what a typical focus app costs. Paying month by month is dearer, at €4 and €6. Students in the GitHub Student Developer Pack get Lite free.
Free plan and trial
BFree to download and use, with or without an account. But the store listings don't say which features are kept for Premium, so we can't tell you where the free version stops.
BStarter is free but tight: 2 integrations from a limited list, 5 projects in total and 1 month of log access. You can try any premium plan free for a week, with no credit card.
Features
AAn adjustable Pomodoro timer, plus tasks with due dates, repeats, reminders, subtasks and priorities. Reports break your time down by day, week, month and project, with a Gantt chart and a calendar view. White noise can play while you work.
ATimed sessions against tasks from your own tool, with finished tasks synced back and time logged per task. The browser extension can block a list of websites while the timer runs. Paid plans add custom timer lengths and emailed reports, and Ultimate adds AppleScript and PowerShell scripting.
Ease of use
A4.8 from about 14,600 App Store ratings. You can start without making an account, and an alarm tells you when each round ends.
BWe have no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is as far as we'll go. You connect a task service and choose which projects, boards or lists to sync, then start a session on any task. Tasks can also live on a Local list inside RoundPie.
Platforms and integrations
BiPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, Mac, Windows and a Chrome extension, with lists and focus records synced between them. No web app or Linux version is listed, and no integrations.
AMac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android, web and a browser extension. It connects to Todoist, Trello, Asana, Jira, Evernote, Google Calendar, Microsoft To Do and Slack. One gap: the download page marks the Safari extension as back soon.

  • The Focus To-Do Premium purchase carries no billing period on the US App Store and is listed at $1.99 for iOS and $3.99 for Mac.
  • Prices appear only in the app stores; the vendor's site lists downloads but has no pricing page.

Key features

Focus To-Do

Pomodoro timer
Pomodoro and break lengths are adjustable, with short and long breaks, pause and resume, a skip-break option, a continuous mode and a warning before a session ends.
Tasks and projects
Tasks take due dates, recurring schedules, reminders, subtasks, color-coded priorities, notes and an estimated number of pomodoros.
Reports
Statistics cover total focus time, completed to-dos and time per project, with trend charts, a Gantt chart of focus time and a calendar view.
Sync across devices
Lists and focus records sync between phone and computer; the listings name iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Android and Windows.
White noise and alarms
A choice of white noise can play during a session, and an alarm or vibration marks the end of each pomodoro.
Forest and App Whitelist
The Android listing adds a Forest view, where focused time grows a plant, and an App Whitelist that limits which apps can be used while focusing.

RoundPie

Timer on top of your task tool
Connect a task service, choose which projects, boards or lists to sync, and start a timed session on any task. Completing a task syncs back to the source tool.
Time log
Time spent on each task is recorded automatically. The log can be filtered by source, project and date and exported, with 1 month, 6 months or unlimited history depending on the plan.
Local tasks and projects
Tasks can also be created inside RoundPie on a Local list and later moved to a connected tool. Managing local projects is part of the paid plans.
Browser extension
The extension adds a RoundPie button to supported task tools, creates tasks from any web page and can block a list of websites while the timer is running.
Custom timers and reports
Paid plans add custom timer lengths, interruption notes, tag customization and weekly and monthly reports by email.
Desktop scripting and hotkeys
The Ultimate plan adds AppleScript and PowerShell scripting for the Mac and Windows apps, and the desktop apps let you set system-wide hotkeys for the timer.
