How we grade them
| 2.8GPAKeeperGood | 2.4GPAPasspackFair | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C$3.58 a month, billed yearly at $42.99, which is the upper half of this category's ordinary band, where the middle plan is $2.99 and Bitwarden Premium is $19.80 a year. Dark web alerts cost extra on top. The business plans, from $2 a user, are the better deal. | BTeams is $1.66 a user a month paid yearly, inside the cheap end of this category, for up to 20 people with unlimited passwords and sharing. Single sign-on, Active Directory, the API and the admin controls need Business at $4.50, the dear end. |
| Free plan and trial | DTen records on one phone, with no desktop app and no syncing. That isn't a password manager, it's a taster, so the real offer here is the 30-day trial. Bitwarden, Proton Pass, Apple and Google all give you one for good. | CNo free plan and no plan for individuals, but a 28-day free trial with no credit card. That's long enough to move a small team over before anyone pays. |
| Features | BEverything this category expects is here: passwords, passkeys, cards and files in one vault, two-factor codes filled in, One-Time Share for someone who isn't on Keeper, emergency access and a business admin console. Nothing it does is beyond the rivals, mind, and BreachWatch is sold separately. | CZero-knowledge encryption, sharing with people and teams, one-time shares with outsiders, built-in TOTP codes and password history. The gap the listing names is autofill: the only extension is for Chrome, with Firefox and Edge coming soon, and there's no Android app. |
| Ease of use | A4.9 from about 231,000 App Store ratings, the highest in this category by a good way. One reviewer came to it from a paper notebook of passwords and got on fine. That says a lot. | CNo rating on record. It's a team tool, so someone sets up the account, the teams and the sharing first. Autofill only works in Chrome and on iPhone; anywhere else you're in the web app. |
| Platforms and integrations | AEverywhere: web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, Android and six browsers, with a command-line tool for the keen and business hooks into Entra ID, Okta, Duo, Slack and Jira. One catch: the Windows app needs Windows 11. | BWeb, iPhone and a Chrome extension, with sign-in through Google, Microsoft or Active Directory, YubiKey support and an API on Business. No desktop or Android app, and Firefox and Edge are still to come. |
| Best for | families who want passwords to just work | small teams sharing passwords on a budget |
The GPA is the average of the five grades: an A is 4 points, an F is none. The full reasons are on each tool's page: Keeper and Passpack. How we grade

Key features
Keeper
- Encrypted vault and autofill
- Stores passwords, passkeys, payment cards and files, and KeeperFill enters logins and two-factor codes across apps and browsers. A generator creates passwords and passphrases.
- Passkeys
- Saves passkeys alongside passwords so they can be used from any device and operating system, and the browser extension manages them directly.
- Sharing and One-Time Share
- Share records and folders with set permissions, or send a time-limited One-Time Share link to someone who does not have a Keeper account.
- Zero-knowledge encryption
- Keeper says data is encrypted and decrypted on the user's device at the record level, so the company cannot access what is stored in a vault.
- Paid add-ons
- BreachWatch dark web monitoring, Secure File Storage and a Concierge support service are sold separately on top of the personal plans.
- Admin console and provisioning
- Business plans include an admin console, enforced policies, team management and a security audit. Enterprise adds SAML single sign-on, SCIM and Active Directory sync.
Passpack
- Zero-knowledge encryption
- Data is encrypted on the device with each user's own Packing Key before it reaches Passpack's servers, which Passpack says it cannot decrypt.
- Sharing with people and teams
- Share passwords and notes with individuals or with teams, transfer ownership of records, and send a one-time share to someone outside the account.
- Built-in TOTP codes
- Stores time-based one-time codes beside the logins they protect, alongside password generation, labels, custom notes and password history.
- Admin controls and audit logs
- Business adds multiple administrators, session time limits, domain restrictions, account resets, advanced activity reporting and unlimited change history.
- Single sign-on and Active Directory
- Business users can sign in with corporate credentials, and the iPhone app supports login with Google or Microsoft (Azure).
- Browser extension autofill
- The Chrome extension fills and logs in to saved sites and picks up new or changed credentials as you enter them.
